External Sales Engineer (ROI)
Location: Remote Republic of Ireland, with support from DPS Head Office
(DPS, 8-10 Balloo Avenue, Bangor, County Down, BT19 7QT)
Overall Purpose of the Job
As part of the DPS Sales Team, the External Sales Engineer (ROI) will be responsible for developing and maintaining business throughout the Republic of Ireland, with a strong focus on direct engagement with Irish Water treatment plants and operational personnel, motor rewinders, mechanical service companies and industrial end users.
This is a field-based technical sales role focused on building long-term relationships with customers who operate, maintain and repair pumping and process equipment. The role will involve regular site visits to understand customer requirements, identify replacement and upgrade opportunities, provide technical product support and develop sales across the DPS product portfolio. The External Sales Engineer will be responsible for generating and maintaining a strong pipeline of opportunities, developing new accounts and increasing sales with existing customers. The role will be
supported by the internal sales team, who will assist with pump selections, quotations and technical enquiries as required.
Main Responsibilities & Duties
Conduct regular site visits to Irish Water treatment plants, pumping stations and other
operational sites throughout the Republic of Ireland.
Develop strong working relationships with plant operators, maintenance teams, engineering
personnel and other site-based decision makers.
Identify opportunities for replacement pumps, pumping equipment, repairs, upgrades and
associated products through direct engagement with operational sites.
Develop and maintain relationships with motor rewinders, pump repair companies,
mechanical service companies and other businesses involved in the maintenance and repair
of rotating equipment.
Develop existing and new business across a broad range of industrial sectors, including:
o Food and beverage
o General manufacturing
o Quarries and aggregates
o Pharmaceutical
o Process industries
o Utilities and infrastructure
o Other relevant industrial sectors
Promote DPS products and technical capabilities to existing and prospective customers.
Identify new sales opportunities through regular customer contact, site visits, referrals and
proactive account development.
Generate and maintain a healthy pipeline of future business and ensure opportunities are
accurately recorded and regularly updated.
Assist customers with the selection and specification of pumps, pumping equipment and
associated products.
Work closely with the internal sales team to prepare quotations and proposals for customers.
Follow up quotations and sales opportunities in a structured and timely manner.
Undertake commercial discussions and negotiations with customers within agreed company
parameters.
Provide technical support to customers regarding product selection, installation, operation,
maintenance and troubleshooting.
Gather relevant market intelligence, including competitor activity, customer requirements,
pricing feedback and emerging opportunities.
Liaise with suppliers and manufacturing partners where technical or commercial support is
required.
Maintain accurate customer, opportunity and activity information within company ERP/CRM
systems.
Provide regular sales, pipeline and activity updates to the Sales Manager.
Undertake regular product and application training and appropriate self-development
activities.
Represent DPS at customer events, trade shows, supplier events and industry exhibitions
where required.
Carry out other reasonable duties as directed by the Sales Manager.
Perform the role in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Maintain a good knowledge of the company's Health, Safety and Environmental requirements
and adhere to safe working practices at all times.

Desirable
Previous experience within a technical sales, engineering sales or field sales environment.
Experience within the water, wastewater, pump, mechanical services or industrial
maintenance sectors.
Experience dealing directly with water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants,
pumping stations or similar operational environments.
Experience working with or selling to motor rewinders, pump repair businesses or
mechanical service companies.
Experience selling into industrial sectors such as food and beverage, manufacturing, quarries,
pharmaceutical or process industries.
Mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pumping or process engineering knowledge.
Practical understanding of pumps, motors, rotating equipment and associated systems.
Ability to interpret basic technical specifications and customer requirements.
Experience using ERP and/or CRM systems.
Other Requirements
The position is predominantly field based and will involve regular travel throughout the Republic of
Ireland.
The successful candidate will be expected to spend a significant proportion of their working week
visiting customer sites and developing relationships within their territory.
Occasional travel to DPS Head Office in Bangor, supplier premises or other EPS Group facilities may be
required.
There may be occasions where overnight stays are necessary due to customer visits, supplier training,
exhibitions or other business requirements.
Occasional flexibility in working hours may be required to accommodate site access, customer
requirements, exhibitions or supplier training.
Reasonable business expenses incurred in the performance of the role will be reimbursed in
accordance with company policy.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a valid full driving licence throughout their
employment in this position.
