General Car Sales Manager, Peterborough

Location: Peterborough
Salary: £53,000 Basic + Uncapped OTE £80,000+
Hours: 40 hours per week, 5 days out of 7 with flexibility required

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced General Sales Manager to lead a high-volume New and Used Car operation at a flagship automotive site in Peterborough.

Retailing approximately 1,500 vehicles per annum and managing a team of around 10–15 sales professionals, this role offers the opportunity to play a key part in shaping the future success of the business during an exciting period of growth and new product launches.

We’re looking for an exceptional people leader who can create a high-performance culture built on accountability, engagement and continuous improvement. This role requires a manager who is passionate about developing individuals, driving performance and leading from the front.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the New and Used Car Sales departments.
• Inspire, motivate and develop a team of approximately 10–15 sales professionals.
• Create a culture of accountability, high performance and customer excellence.
• Drive departmental performance against volume, profitability and customer satisfaction targets.
• Coach, mentor and develop team members to maximise individual and collective success.
• Effectively manage performance, recognising success and addressing underperformance where required.
• Ensure robust sales processes and operational standards are consistently maintained.
• Work closely with senior leadership to influence the strategic direction and success of the business.
• Support succession planning and the development of future leaders within the team.
• Take a hands-on approach, leading from the front and remaining visible on the showroom floor.

The successful candidate will be an accomplished automotive sales leader with a proven track record of managing and developing high-performing teams.

You will be:

• An experienced Automotive Sales Manager or General Sales Manager.
• A strong people manager with the ability to build, motivate and retain successful teams.
• Skilled in coaching, mentoring and developing individuals to achieve their full potential.
• Experienced in performance management and comfortable having both supportive and challenging conversations when required.
• Able to create a culture of ownership, accountability and continuous improvement.
• A hands-on leader who isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and support the team when needed.
• Commercially astute, with a strong understanding of KPIs, profitability and departmental performance.
• Passionate about delivering an exceptional customer journey and maintaining high operational standards.
