Mid-Level PHP Developer - Laravel/CakePHP

• Basingstoke (Hybrid - 1 day onsite per week)
• £40,000 - £55,000 per annum

Overview
A growing organisation is looking for an experienced Mid-level PHP Developer to join their technology team, supporting the development and improvement of business-critical CRM applications.

Working within a cross-functional Scrum team, this role will deliver new functionality, improve existing systems, and support the continued evolution of applications to meet changing business needs.

This is an opportunity for a skilled PHP Developer to work in a collaborative Agile environment, delivering high-quality software solutions alongside developers, QA, Business Analysts, and DevOps teams.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Back End applications using PHP, Laravel, and CakePHP.
• Deliver features across development, testing, and deployment.
• Maintain and enhance existing and Legacy CakePHP applications.
• Build and support APIs and Back End services.
• Write clean, maintainable code following best practices.
• Contribute to code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD.
• Support system design, integrations, and technical improvements.
• Work within Agile teams and collaborate with wider technology teams.
• Identify opportunities to improve performance, scalability, and reduce technical debt.

Skills & Experience

• 3+ years of commercial PHP development experience.
• Strong experience with PHP 7.4/CakePHP and PHP 8+/Laravel/Symfony.
• Experience developing Back End systems and APIs.
• Good knowledge of MySQL, including query and performance optimisation.
• Working knowledge of JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS.
• Experience with Git, branching, and pull requests.
• Familiarity with Docker and Linux/WSL environments.
• Experience with unit and automated testing.
• Understanding of clean code, software design principles, and coding standards.
• Exposure to Vue.js/Nuxt, Azure, CI/CD, messaging, or microservices is a plus.
