Urology Clinical Nurse Specialist | University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust

An exciting opportunity to join the Urology Clinical Nurse Specialist team at UHCW has arisen. Mainly concentrating on all aspects of Urology, the suitable candidate will be expected to participate in many procedures and clinics within the discipline. This is an ideal role for someone’s personally development. The clinics covered will be numerous and will include but not limited to TWOCS, ISC, cystectomy care and ward visits. The candidate will be an integral member of the wider Urology MDT workings and with appropriate training and support will develop and implement opportunities for advancing nursing practice and for ensuring collaborative working relationships, incorporating expert clinical practice, leadership, consultation and education.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
1. Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care, utilising research findings as appropriate
2. Support, advice and teach catheter care for patients with long term indwelling catheters
3. Provide additional assessment and perform uroflometry and bladder scanning for patients. Assist; perform, interpret and plan care of action with specialist investigation such as Urodynamics Study, USS, X-rays and PTNS within their job role expectations
4. Teach patients/carers intermittent self-catheterisation and self-dilatation
5. Provide a one stop assessment for patients referred with trial without a catheter, urinary retention and breaking bad news.
6. Initiate or participate in clinical audit/research projects and urology presentations. Set up new nurse led urology clinics to help patients and Urology Department

• Liaise with the Multi-disciplinary team in providing efficient and effective care meet the needs of the service
• Ensuring that nursing procedures are carried out in accordance with UHCW Trust policy taking appropriate action in emergency situations
• Able to undertake nurse led continence clinic, PTNS clinic, bladder instillations, TWOC clinic, Lithotripsy, telephone clinics, catheter change clinic and erectile dysfunction clinic would be an advantage.
