Job Description
We are seeking to complement our staff team with an enthusiastic, nurturing and highly committed Primary Teacher for our Additional Support Centre (ASC), working with children who have a range of complex additional support needs including autism.
Sacred Heart ASC is a non- denominational setting that currently supports 18 children across three classes. Our children have a diverse range of strengths and additional support needs. We provide a highly supportive, responsive and individualised learning environment where every child is valued as an important member of the wider Sacred Heart Primary School community.

At Sacred Heart ASC, our approach is rooted in strong relationships, inclusion and a commitment to every child achieving their full potential. We recognise and celebrate each child’s individual strengths and successes, supporting them to develop confidence, communication, independence and a strong sense of belonging.
The successful candidate will teach children working across Milestones and the early stages of Curriculum for Excellence, using creative and flexible approaches to meet individual communication, sensory developmental and learning needs.
Knowledge or experience of autism and approaches such as SCERTS, TEACCH and AAC together with an understanding of sensory processing and regulation would be desirable. A willingness to undertake relevant professional learning is essential.
The key policy document for Falkirk schools is Learning to Achieve . This was co-created, and recently revised in 2022, by headteachers, teachers, early years practitioners, support staff, central officers, parents/carers, pupils, and wider partners.
This document outlines our aim to ensure that all our learners have access to:
- a range of creative learning experiences which support deep, sustained learning and appropriately meet their needs.
- a variety of active learning approaches, appropriate to their developmental stage, to support them in their development of creative and critical thinking.
- regular conversations relating to how they want to learn.
- appropriate supports to ensure they can overcome any barriers to learning which helps them feel included and engaged in their own school or setting.
- regular opportunities to reflect on their own learning and achievements, setting learning goals and next steps.
Curriculum Delivery:
To support the delivery of a high-quality curriculum, we are looking for teachers who can:
- Use knowledge of their local community to build a relevant curriculum which meets the needs of their children, young people and families.
- Review and refine the curriculum offer on a regular basis, making effective use of relevant information to meet the needs of learners.
- Take account of the knowledge, skills and attributes that children and young people need to develop in our rapidly changing world.
- Understand and use pedagogies that meet the development needs of children and young people.
- Ensure children and young people see the relevance of their learning and can link this to their own experiences and the world of work.

- Ensure assessment takes place as part of ongoing learning, periodically and includes times of transition.
- Share the purpose and application of learning.
- Support children and young people to discuss and explain their thinking.
- Provide high quality interactions and feedback that informs next steps in learning.
- Use a range of assessment evidence including National Benchmarks to describe progress and achievement against standards and expectations.
- Ensure tracking and monitoring informs teaching and improves outcomes for learners,
- Engage in professional dialogue with colleagues to moderate and plan collegiately at all stages of the learning, teaching, and assessment cycle.
