About the Role
As a Teacher of Sociology, you will guide students through the complex structures, power dynamics, and cultural phenomena shaping modern society. Teaching across Key Stage 4 (GCSE Sociology) and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Sociology), you will explore core sociological themes, including education, crime and deviance, social stratification, families and households, and research methods, equipping pupils with the analytical tools needed for top university pathways and social research careers.
Start Date: Immediate or upcoming term

Culture: A collaborative, intellectually vibrant department supported by dedicated social science leads, rich digital resources, and an encouraging leadership team
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver creative, high-impact Sociology lessons across Key Stages 4 and 5 (A-Level) that build theoretical understanding, evidence evaluation, and structured essay-writing skills.
Prepare students thoroughly for national GCSE and A-Level examinations using data-driven tracking, regular exam-technique workshops, and actionable feedback routines.
Connect classic and contemporary sociological theories (e.g., Marxism, Functionalism, Feminism, Postmodernism) to real-world social issues, policy developments, and current affairs.
Assess, track, and monitor pupil progress, offering tailored intervention to stretch high attainers while scaffolding support for developing scholars.
Lead or contribute to departmental enrichment, such as sociology societies, social policy debates, academic lectures, and university preparation masterclasses.
Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching credential.
A strong academic degree in Sociology, Criminology, Social Policy, or a closely related discipline.
Proven track record or demonstrated capability of delivering outstanding Sociology teaching across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 (A-Level experience is essential).
Thorough knowledge of national Sociology specifications and examination board requirements (e.g., AQA, OCR, Eduqas).
Outstanding classroom leadership, critical questioning skills, and an infectious enthusiasm for social inquiry and contemporary debate.
Salary & Benefits
Pay Scale: Inner London MPS/UPS pay scale (commensurate with experience), with potential TLR opportunities available for key stage coordination or social sciences curriculum initiatives.
Comprehensive continuous professional development (CPD), structured mentoring programmes, and clear pathways for rapid career advancement in an Outstanding school environment.
