We are looking for an exceptional and inspiring Head of Art to lead and develop Art at Lucton School. Could that be you?

Contract type: Full-time, permanent

Working pattern: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 5:30pm including three Saturdays and Prep evening duties a term, as well as parents’ evenings and curriculum events

Salary: Dependent on experience

Start date: December 2026 or sooner

About the Role and You

The Head of Art will lead and develop the Art Department, inspiring students from Key Stage 2 through to Sixth Form to achieve their creative potential.

You will provide strong subject leadership while delivering engaging and ambitious teaching through to GCSE and A Level. You will encourage pupils to experiment, take creative risks and develop their own artistic identity across areas including Fine Art, Textiles and Graphic Design.

Your main responsibilities will include:

• Leading and developing the Art Department and its curriculum.

• Teaching Art from Key Stage 2 through to GCSE and A Level.

• Planning and delivering engaging, challenging and inclusive lessons.

• Developing inspiring schemes of work that promote creativity, technical skill and independent thinking.

• Monitoring pupil progress and supporting strong academic outcomes.

• Leading and supporting colleagues within the department.

• Promoting Art through exhibitions, enrichment opportunities, trips and the wider life of the School.

• Maintaining a stimulating, safe and well-organised creative learning environment.

About You : We are looking for someone who:

• Holds a relevant degree in Art, Fine Art or a related discipline.

• Holds QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

• Has strong experience teaching Art, including GCSE and/or A Level.

• Has the ability to inspire pupils across a range of ages and abilities.

• Can design and deliver creative and ambitious schemes of work.

• Demonstrates strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.

• Is enthusiastic, adaptable and committed to contributing to the wider life of the School.

• Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children and young people.

Previous departmental or subject leadership experience would be advantageous.
