What will your role look like?
As a Data Business Analyst at Welcome Break, you will play a vital role in shaping how data is captured, made available and used across the organisation. Sitting at the centre of our data ecosystem, you’ll partner with business teams across Hotels, Food & Beverage, Retail, Operations, Finance, and Marketing to translate business needs into clear data requirements.

What a Data Business Analyst Is Responsible For
- Partner with stakeholders across UK teams as a trusted data advisor.
- Run discovery sessions and workshops to clarify questions and opportunities.
- Translate business needs into data use cases, KPIs, and insight requirements.
- Capture business definitions, context, and metric logic in clear documentation.
- Convert requirements into technical specs (source-to-target mappings, rules, transformations).
- Work with Data Engineers to shape pipelines, integration, and data models.
- Support Agile delivery: backlog refinement, prioritisation, sprint planning, acceptance criteria.
- Define and maintain KPI and metric definitions for consistency.
- Set data quality rules, validation criteria, and operational checks.
- Champion data stewardship, metadata, and governance best practice.
- Partner with BI/analytics teams to ensure data products meet user needs.
- Support UAT, data validation, and troubleshooting of new datasets and pipelines.
- Enable self-service by improving the accessibility and usability of data assets.
- Identify opportunities to drive revenue, efficiency, and guest experience improvements.
- Improve requirements, documentation, testing, and delivery standards.
- Contribute to a scalable modern data platform through reusable standards and assets.
Skills
Essential Skills & Experience for a Data Business Analyst:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working as a Data Business Analyst, Business Analyst or in a comparable data-focused role.
- Domain expertise (hospitality/retail, finance & commercial analytics)
- Strong experience gathering, documenting, and managing business and data requirements.
- Proven ability to work with both business stakeholders and technical teams to deliver data-driven solutions.
- Experience working with Agile methodologies and delivery frameworks.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and facilitation skills.
- Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and data stewardship principles.
Desirable Skills For a Data Business Analyst
- Experience with BI tools like Power BI
- Technical depth (data governance/cataloguing, Azure/cloud platforms)
- Process expertise (data product thinking, MDM, change management & enablement)
