R oles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023 , where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership . This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above . (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 10 and above (currently £30,030 per annum / £16.50 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members , and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

Job purpose/about the role

To help promote effective learning, teaching, personal development and an atmosphere where pupils can achieve to reach their potential under direction and supervision

We are seeking to appoint a committed, caring, and enthusiastic Pupil Support Assistant to join our team in supporting children and young people with Additional Support Needs (ASN). The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff and partner agencies to provide high-quality support that enables pupils to access learning, develop independence, and achieve their full potential. You will contribute to creating an inclusive, nurturing environment where all learners feel valued, supported, and successful. The role may involve supporting pupils with a range of needs, including communication difficulties, social, emotional and behavioural needs, sensory impairments, and complex learning needs. Experience of working with children and young people with ASN is desirable, although a positive attitude, flexibility, patience, and a commitment to inclusion are essential.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

• PVG membership for regulated work with children and/or protected adults or, a
  willingness to obtain prior to a formal offer of employment being made.

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

• Proven oral communication, literacy and numeracy skills
• Empathy, patience and tolerance and to respond positively to a variety of additional support needs
• Establishing positive relationships with others
