Accounts Assistant

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and organised Accounts Assistant to support the finance function of the business. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with month-end processes, and supporting budgeting, VAT, audit, and foreign currency management activities. This role requires strong numerical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a busy finance team.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain purchase and sales ledgers accurately and efficiently
• Perform general bookkeeping duties and maintain financial records
• Prepare and reconcile accounts, ensuring all discrepancies are investigated and resolved
• Maintain cashbooks and bank accounts, including regular bank reconciliations
• Process and post journal entries into the accounting system
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities
• Support the preparation and submission of VAT returns
• Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts
• Provide support with company secretarial duties and statutory filings
• Manage and monitor foreign currency transactions and balances
• Assist with internal and external company audits by preparing required documentation and schedules
• Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures
• Support the wider finance team with ad hoc administrative and accounting tasks as required

Skills & Experience Required

• Previous experience in an accounts or bookkeeping role
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial processes
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
• Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Experience with VAT returns and management accounts preparation is desirable
• Knowledge of foreign currency transactions would be advantageous
