Job summary
This is a replacement/reconfiguration substantive post resulting from changes to organisation of consultant team to deliver the existing respiratory and Cystic Fibrosis service. The post holder will join an established Respiratory and Cystic fibrosis service which provides tertiary respiratory care including Cystic fibrosis, Long-term ventilation, Sleep, Difficult asthma, Primary ciliary dyskinesia, Bronchiectasis and several other conditions. The post holder will join an established Respiratory and Cystic fibrosis (CF) service which provides tertiary respiratory care including in CF, long term ventilation, sleep problems, difficult asthma, non-Cf bronchiectasis, Primary ciliary dyskinesia and several other conditions. The post holder will participate in general respiratory and CF service outpatient provision and there is provision to develop a subspeciality interest in LTV and sleep based on post holder's experience and service needs. There is also scope to support the development of CF service provision with newer expectations and specifications and lung function testing. About us

The post holder will work along with a team of 8 other consultants who work together to provide continuous cover for respiratory and CF patients. The post-holder will be involved in all aspects of the department as described above. Each newly appointed consultant will be expected to participate in a Trust-wide Consultant developmental programme designed to maximize their professional development during their early years as a consultant. This will include areas such as R&D, clinical leadership and management, education and training, and governance. A formal rolling programme delivered within the Trust in selected cohorts over 5 years. Office space is within the department, with personal IT and internet facilities and shared secretarial support. Direct clinical care (DCC) comprises 7.0 PAs and 2.0 SPAs for Supporting Professional Activities (1.5 core SPA for teaching, audit, research, administration, clinical governance, appraisal and continuing professional development, additional 0.25 SPA for educational supervision and 0.25 SPA for service development as per specialty interest) are allocated to the post. Additional roles such as educational lead, governance lead, service lead and CF Director come with additional SPAs and are carried out amongst the consultants in a rotational manner and as per interest/ departmental need. The DCC is to cover outpatient, inpatient and MDT clinical work and all clinical activities pertaining to the Consultant role. There is also potential to obtain up to 2 additional research PAs through the BWCH Charity funds. The work is split over on service (On-call weeks) and non- on service weeks. Person Specification

- Full GMC registration
- MRCPCH by examination or equivalent
- On the GMC's Specialist Register OR within six months of CCT at time of scheduled interview.
- Higher Degree (MD, PhD, etc)
- Management training

- Appropriate progression of career to date
- Minimum of 2 years specialist training in units approved for training by Respiratory CSAC (RCPCH) or an established consultant in Respiratory Paediatrics elsewhere with equivalent experience.
- Competent in all aspects of the paediatric respiratory training curriculum for inpatient and outpatient management and competent in performing flexible bronchoscopy, reporting complex lung function tests and sleep study reporting.
- Skills to manage acutely ill child in setting of complex/ chronic respiratory issues Ability to interpret various specialist lung function tests
- Experience in managing safeguarding cases
- Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training
- Valid BLS training
- Special experience in long-term ventilation, difficult asthma and sleep to complement current interests within department
- Valid APLS
