About our Team:

Our team operates within Sage’s global Journals Editorial Department and collaborates with colleagues across Editorial, Peer Review, Legal, and other publishing divisions. Together, we uphold the quality, credibility, and ethical standards of Sage’s journal portfolio. Trusted by editors, societies, reviewers, and authors, we examine publication ethics concerns, recommend appropriate guidelines, and refine processes that foster responsible research and transparent communication. Our work is cooperative, passionate about solutions, and key to sustaining Sage’s reputation for integrity and independence.

Could you be our new Research Integrity Editor? Are you?

• Experienced in publication ethics with a track record of investigating a range of ethics cases in scholarly journals?

• Experienced in peer review assessment and confident in directing or reviewing peer review procedures?

• Knowledgeable in research ethics and capable of applying that understanding to real-world editorial situations?

• Motivated by ongoing improvement, constantly seeking methods to optimise workflows and results?

• Creative in problem-solving, able to navigate complexity with balanced judgement and practical solutions?

• Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise competing demands?

• A confident communicator who can convey complex information clearly and professionally?

• Knowledgeable of online submission systems, preferably with direct experience of working with ScholarOne Manuscripts.

Your new role:

You will independently examine and address issues related to publication ethics and apply good judgement, communicate clearly, and draw on your extensive knowledge. You will collaborate closely with the Research Integrity Manager to improve workflows, develop mentorship, and assist colleagues in handling complex ethical matters thoughtfully and confidently.

• Independently investigate ethics concerns and deliver timely, well-supported resolutions that reinforce trust in COPE mentorship and Sage policies.

• Identify and implement workflow improvements that increase consistency, transparency, and efficiency across ethics investigations.

• Provide calm, informed mentorship on complex ethics cases, ensuring collaborators feel respected, supported, and clearly informed.

• Communicate clearly and professionally with authors, editors, reviewers, and colleagues to ensure accurate, inclusive, and timely case handling.

• Assess risk thoughtfully and bring up cases appropriately, keeping key partners engaged and aware of potential impacts.

• Support Editorial and Peer Review teams in communicating confidently, clearly, and constructively about research integrity matters.

• Strengthen global collaboration by encouraging trusted, positive relationships across Editorial, Peer Review, and Legal teams.

• Advance research integrity objectives by testing new tools, sharing learning, contributing to training, and managing confidential information responsibly in line with GDPR.
