- Develop, validate and implement new genomic assays, technologies and laboratory processes for clinical diagnostic use.
- Design and undertake validation studies, analyse data, and prepare validation reports and standard operating procedures.
- Support quality management activities, ensuring compliance with UKAS ISO 15189 standards and laboratory governance requirements.
- Work collaboratively with scientific, bioinformatic, technical, automation and informatics teams to improve and develop genomic services.
- Provide training and support to colleagues, trainees and students, contributing to workforce development within the laboratory.

- BSc at a least 2(i) in an appropriate scientific subject
- PhD in the field of genomics/genetics (or equivalent)

- Practical experience in relevant laboratory techniques and troubleshooting of assays
- Experience in research and development in a relevant field, including evidence of authorship or contribution to peer-reviewed publications
- Proven experience in the drafting and finalisation of complex protocol and report writing
- Experience in genomic assay validation and verification
- Knowledge of principles of clinical laboratory genetics (in area of expertise)
- Experience of rare disease genomic data analysis
- Experience of somatic cancer genomic data analysis
- Able to critically analyse and interpret scientific data
- Able to concentrate at all times and work under pressure
- Excellent organisational and planning skills
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Knowledge and experience of LIMS and other laboratory IT systems
- Experience in writing grants / research funding applications
- Knowledge and experience of supervision and management
- Knowledge and experience of automation and robotic liquid handling
- Knowledge of bioinformatics and analysis of complex genomic data
