Staff Nurse - Cancer Inpatient Services

Job summary
The post holder will work as part of a team of registered nurses, nursingassociates, health care support workers and student nurses in delivering safe effective care to patients within the Cancer Inpatient wards working incollaboration with the medical and wider MDT teams, ensuring a high-quality service to patients.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide care to patients within the cancer inpatient wards on with the guidance and support of senior colleagues. As skills and competencies are developed there may be occasion when you would take charge of the unit. The post holder will always act as a role model ensuring safe and effective care is provided to all. The post holder will actively participate in meeting patient needs within the service to agreed standards and participate in audit activities / data collection. The post holder will be expected to act as a practice assessor / supervisor to students / learners allocated to the unit.

Clinical: Patient care
Acting as role model and leading by example in all aspects of clinical care

Education and Development
Undertake appropriate education and training relevant to the role tosupport with personal and professional development and growth

Management and Leadership
Take charge of the unit on occasion as necessaryParticipate in audit and QI projects as required.

Clinical Governance
Effective risk management, reporting clinical incidents via DATIXincidents and promote a culture of safe practice with openness andtransparency.

• Registered Nurse, Degree qualification in Nursing or cancer related subject.
• Practice Assessor / supervisor qualification / teaching qualification
• IV therapy competency

Desirable

• Tracheostomy competency 5A ward
• SACT qualification REACT / SIREN or equivalent
• Stem cell administration competency (if relevant to ward area 5A, 5C, 5D)

Experience
Essential

• NMC registration
• Experience of working in an acute environment, acute wards.

Desirable

• Willingness to undertake training relevant to the role

Knowledge
Essential

• Knowledge and understanding of cancer patient clinical issues and common oncology emergencies and their management
• Broad understanding of cancer its treatments and side effects Knowledge of audit and data collection
