Do you take pride in providing great customer service, with a background that includes retail and merchandising? Would you like to work with SUEZ, a company working for a greener UK, recovering value from what other people no longer need?

When you join SUEZ, you get more than a brand-new role. Your work will help us deliver innovative and environmentally responsible solutions for water and waste management. You will get a chance to help us preserve and restore our planet’s natural capital for future generations. It’s a career that’s not only exciting, but full of opportunities as well as professional and personal fulfilment.

About the role

Location: Connon Bridge, East Taphouse, Liskeard, PL14 4NP

  • £12.85 an hour
  • 30 Hours per week
  • Working pattern to be confirmed
  • Weekend working is required

About the role

What will I be doing?

Through our waste contract with Greater Manchester Combined Authority, SUEZ has made a commitment to set up re-use shops on our Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC's) to resell donated items and generate £300,000 annually to be re-invested in social projects in Greater Manchester.

As a shop operative you will be in charge of the daily running of our re-use shop, based at Connon Bridge HWRC, liaising with the re-use hub manager to make sure the shop is fully stocked and that everything is properly stored or made ready for sale.

This will involve you:

  • merchandising stock, organising, preparing, pricing and presenting donations for sale, to increase sales and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • manage stock and communicate to the re-use hub manager what stock the shop needs delivering.
  • operate the cash register, counting / reconciling cash and credit card receipts, processing returns and refunds
  • ensure goods are sold at appropriate value and all rejected items are disposed of appropriately.
  • make certain that collections and deliveries are arranged in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • maintain the security of the shop premises, stock and cash.

You'll be expected to promote the values of the shop and the charitable nature of the re-use scheme in Greater Manchester, at the same time as providing excellent customer experience to encourage repeat custom and the smooth and profitable running of the shop.

What are the requirements?

You will be passionate about the environment and in particular this re-use project, with prior retail experience and a real enthusiasm for providing excellent customer service.

Either you will have knowledge of recycling asnd upcycling, or willing to rapidly develop it, but you should have an understanding of maintaining stock, merchandising and the ability to handle financial aspects of retail, along with:

  • A flexible attitude to work as shift work and weekend work will be required.
  • The confidence to initially work alone in the re-use shop (until volunteers are recruited).
  • Excellent teamwork skills as you will also work closely with site staff on the HWRCs.

Who we are

At SUEZ the efficient and sustainable management of resources around the UK is at the heart of everything we do. Respect – acting ethically and with integrity – is one of our core values. We’re passionate about the environment and believe in protecting our world. With true team spirit, we can give our customers a standard of service that goes above and beyond and ensure that our local communities have access to essential water and waste services.

We thank our people for all they do with development opportunities, wide-ranging benefits and rewards that reflect their hard work. In a friendly, supportive environment, you’ll be inspired to grow and play your part in creating a better future for all.
