Practice Nurse / Nurse Practitioner

Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and patient-centred nurse to join our friendly and supportive primary care team. We are open to appointing either an experienced Practice Nurse or a suitably qualified Nurse Practitioner / Advanced Nurse Practitioner. The final job plan, responsibilities and salary will be agreed according to the successful candidates experience, competencies, qualifications and scope of practice. For a Practice Nurse appointment, the role will focus on the delivery and coordination of core general practice nursing services. This may include childhood immunisations, adult and seasonal vaccinations, cervical screening, wound care and dressings, B12 injections, other injections under appropriate PGDs or PSDs, health checks, phlebotomy where appropriate, and supporting long-term condition reviews within the postholders competency. For a suitably qualified Nurse Practitioner / Advanced Nurse Practitioner, the role may also include a broader clinical scope, such as assessment and management of appropriate minor illness presentations, autonomous clinical decision-making within an agreed scope of practice, and contribution to same-day or urgent care pathways. Independent prescribing would be welcomed but is not essential unless agreed as part of the final job plan. Interviews will be held W.C 17/08/2026.

Main duties of the job
Registered Nurse with current NMC registration; experience working as a Practice Nurse, Nurse Practitioner or in a relevant primary care nursing role; ability to deliver high-quality patient-centred care; good communication and organisational skills; ability to work safely within own scope of practice; commitment to professional development and effective multidisciplinary team working. For a Nurse Practitioner / Advanced Nurse Practitioner appointment, relevant advanced practice experience and competency in minor illness assessment and management would be expected. Independent prescribing would be desirable but is not essential unless agreed as part of the final role. In either version of the role, the successful candidate will act as the practices lead nurse and will support the safe, effective and well-organised delivery of nursing services, including immunisation programmes, cervical screening, vaccine stock management, cold-chain monitoring, infection prevention and control, nursing protocols, clinical audit, recall systems and quality improvement. Depending on experience, the successful candidate may also have the opportunity to act as the practices Safeguarding Lead, working with the GP partners, Practice Manager and wider team to support safeguarding processes, training, escalation and liaison with external agencies.

Morris House Group Practice is situated in Tottenham in a large, modern and airy purpose-built Medical Centre, which we share with district nurses, community physiotherapists, podiatrists, psychologists, tissue-viability nurses and a sexual health clinic. Our list size is about 15,000 patients. It is a diverse area and a cultural melting-pot. Our practice has a very strong teaching ethos. We train GP registrars, medical students, physician associates and foundation year 2 doctors among others. We have close links with Kings Medical School and the St Georges Physician Associate teaching programme. We provide training to GP trainees from the Enfield and Haringey VTS and Foundation Year 2 doctors from the North Middlesex Hospital rotation programme. We perform the full range of clinical roles that you would expect in primary care. In addition, we offer high-level minor surgery and specialist tongue tie release services. Job responsibilities
Clinical Nursing Responsibilities
The postholder will work within their own professional competency and scope of practice. Duties may include:
  • Running routine general practice nursing clinics.
  • Delivering childhood immunisations in line with the national immunisation schedule.
  • Delivering adult and seasonal vaccination programmes.
  • Undertaking cervical screening.
  • Providing wound care, dressings and suture or clip removal.
  • Administering B12 injections and other injections under appropriate PGDs or PSDs.
  • Administering hormonal or oncology-related injections where directed by secondary care and where appropriate training, governance and authorisation are in place.
  • Undertaking health checks and lifestyle advice.
  • Undertaking phlebotomy where appropriate.
  • Supporting long-term condition reviews within competency.
  • Recognising acutely unwell patients and escalating appropriately.
  • Discussing clinical concerns with the GP partners, duty clinician, ACPs or wider clinical team where matters fall outside the postholders scope of practice.
  • Maintaining accurate, timely and coded clinical records.
For a Nurse Practitioner or Advanced Nurse Practitioner appointment, additional duties may be agreed, depending on qualifications and competency. These may include:
  • Assessment and management of appropriate minor illness presentations.
  • Autonomous clinical decision-making within an agreed scope of practice.
  • Requesting or interpreting investigations where appropriate.
  • Making referrals where clinically appropriate and within agreed practice protocols.
  • Contributing to same-day or urgent care workstreams.
  • Prescribing, only where the postholder is an independent prescriber and prescribing is agreed as part of the role.
Lead Nurse Responsibilities
The postholder will be the practices lead nurse and will support the safe and effective organisation of nursing services. Duties will include:
  • Taking a lead role in the delivery and monitoring of childhood immunisations.
  • Taking a lead role in adult and seasonal vaccination programmes.
  • Supporting achievement of cervical screening, immunisation and other relevant practice targets.
  • Supporting safe vaccine ordering, storage, stock rotation and stock control.
  • Supporting cold-chain monitoring and escalation processes.
  • Supporting infection prevention and control processes within the practice.
  • Contributing to nursing-related audits and quality improvement work.
  • Supporting recall systems for nursing-related services.
  • Helping to maintain and review nursing protocols, PGDs, PSD processes and related practice guidance.
  • Supporting HCAs and other members of the team with nursing-related processes, within the limits of the postholders role and experience.
  • Escalating risks, incidents, safety concerns or training needs to the Practice Manager and GP partners.
  • Acting as a trainer to support members of the team up-skill.
Care and Programme Management
The postholder will:
  • Contribute to local and national targets, including cervical screening, immunisations and long-term condition care.
  • Support safe and effective call and recall systems.
  • Help ensure appropriate coding and documentation of nursing activity.
  • Contribute to audit and review of nursing outcomes.
  • Support the identification of patients requiring follow-up or escalation.
  • Refer or signpost patients to other members of the multidisciplinary team, community services, statutory services or voluntary organisations where appropriate.
  • Be aware of safeguarding protocols for children and vulnerable adults and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Support appropriate reimbursement processes for drugs, vaccines, injectables and dressings that the practice can claim back from NHS England.
Working Within Scope of Practice
The postholder will:
  • Work within NMC professional standards and their own scope of competence.
  • Be accountable for their own professional actions.
  • Recognise professional and personal limitations.
  • Seek advice and escalate appropriately where clinical issues fall outside their competency.
  • Maintain evidence of training and competency for key clinical activities.
  • Participate in supervision, appraisal and continuing professional development.
  • Ensure that any expanded clinical duties are only undertaken following appropriate training, assessment and agreement with the practice.
Health Improvement
The postholder will:
  • Provide health promotion and lifestyle advice as part of routine nursing care.
  • Support programmes of screening and prevention.
  • Encourage uptake of immunisations, cervical screening and other preventive health services.
  • Support patients to manage long-term conditions and reduce health risks.
  • Help identify opportunities to improve health outcomes for the practice population.
Communication
The postholder will:
  • Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients, carers and colleagues.
  • Provide clear explanations to patients about procedures, treatment, immunisations and follow-up.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with the wider practice team.
  • Liaise appropriately with community nursing teams, secondary care services, PCN colleagues and other external organisations.
  • Escalate concerns clearly and promptly to the appropriate clinician or manager.
  • Participate in relevant clinical and practice meetings.
Management, Leadership and Team Working
The postholder will:
  • Act as the lead nurse for the practice.
  • Promote safe, effective and consistent nursing practice.
  • Support effective communication between the nursing team, HCAs, clinicians and administrative staff.
  • Participate in clinical and practice meetings.
  • Contribute to CQC readiness and practice quality standards.
  • Support the development of nursing services in line with practice needs.
  • Identify training, governance or safety issues relating to nursing services.
  • Support students or learners where appropriate and within the postholders experience.
  • Complete mandatory training in a timely manner.
Policies, Protocols and Governance
The postholder will:
  • Work within all relevant practice policies and procedural guidance, including infection control, chaperoning, safeguarding, confidentiality, cold-chain, incident reporting and risk management.
  • Implement and adhere to local and national guidance, PGDs, PSDs and clinical pathways.
  • Contribute to the review and improvement of nursing policies and protocols.
  • Alert the Practice Manager and GP partners to risks, gaps or areas requiring improvement.
  • Support the practice in meeting CQC, NHS England, ICB, PCN and Public Health requirements relevant to nursing services.
Information Management
The postholder will:
  • Use the clinical system effectively and accurately.
  • Record consultations, procedures, immunisations and clinical activity using appropriate coding.
  • Support accurate data entry for QOF, local enhanced services and other practice targets.
  • Assist with searches, recalls and audit work relevant to nursing services.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with Caldicott principles and information governance requirements.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Experience working as a Practice Nurse or in a relevant nursing role.
