ICURe Regional Hub Manager - Operations (Central Belt)

Powered by world-class research from UK Higher Education, Innovation to Commercialisation of University Research (ICURe) enables spin-out companies across the country, supports the development of products and services that benefit people, businesses and the wider economy.

The Head of Regional Hub Operations Manager will act as the lead coordinator for the operational delivery and growth of the ICURe programmes across the Midlands Innovation (MI) ICURe Region. They will work closely with a range of internal stakeholders across the MI ICURe programme team and network, the ICURe delivery partners), other regional Heads of Hub postholders, key stakeholders in UKRI, Innovate UK, Universities, and research-intensive institutions, and with external partners from both the public and private sectors.

The role will focus on actively contributing to and increasing the ICURe programmes successful commercialisation of Innovative UK technologies, products, or services that originate from academic research within UK universities and research institutes.

The post holder will help bridge the gap for those teams on their journey between academia and entrepreneurship by translating their discoveries into practical licensing deals and spin-out companies and measure the value and impact generated.

The post holder will be key in recruiting to technology and sector specific cohorts, where their knowledge of the research landscape in the wider Midlands regions and experience in working with deep technologies will be particularly vital.

The role works closely with other Head of Regional Hubs both Operations and Strategic to support the continued delivery and growth of the national Innovate UK funded ICURe programme and the broader national spinout ecosystem.

Join us as the Innovation-to-Commercialisation of University Research (ICURe) Strategic Head of Hub for the Central Belt (covering Mid/North Wales, The Midlands, and East of England).

About You

The Regional Hub Manager - Operations will act as the lead coordinator for the operational delivery and growth of the ICURe programmes across the Central Belt Region (covering Mid/North Wales, The Midlands, and East of England).

They will need to be able to:

  • Lead the day-to-day coordination of operational aspects involved in the establishment of a network of regional ICURe Hubs, including stakeholder engagement, programme delivery, improving communications/ marketing strategies, and supporting the Regional Hub Manager - Strategy on the development and monitoring of long-term strategy and planning.
  • Work closely with Innovate UK senior leadership to align planned activity with the strategic research, innovation, and skills priorities of Innovate UK and UKRI, and identify and scope out new Business Development opportunities in partnership with the Regional Hub Manager - Strategy.
  • Widen participation and increase the equality and diversity of the ICURe programme particularly amongst smaller research and regionally focused institutions.
  • Develop cost effective strategies to drive positive change, increase the visibility and accessibility of the ICURe programmes and drive the support for these activities, with a strong focus on identifying and surfacing potential research projects that can lead to high growth spinouts.
  • To identify and develop linkages across regional hubs both internally and externally, seeking to identify areas of collaborative working and develop areas of mutual commercial benefit.
  • Deputise for the Senior Innovate UK programme leadership as required, making decisions on day-to-day project level direction.

In addition, you need curate the teams emerging from our programmes to get support from their local innovation ecosystems and national schemes such as the Local Partnership Innovation Fund.

This role covers these two aspects: recruitment onto ICURe, and support afterwards. To do this will require a highly creditable experienced university commercialisation practitioner will high influencing skills

About the Department

The Warwick Innovations ICURe team has been one of three delivery partners, delivering the national Innovate UK ICURe programmes on behalf of Midlands Innovation. Last year we doubled our outputs and began the joining up of ICURe with UKRI’s research council’s translational funding programmes. In the FY26-27 we are doubling again: we need to finish the joining up with research councils and ensure all regional Universities and publicly funded research institutes are feeding participants into our programmes.
