Job summary
Trainee Obstetrics and Gynaecology Sonographer, MFT. Are you a Radiographer, with a keen interest in obstetrics and gynaecology, and wish to further your career and train for a PgC in obstetrics and gynaecology ultrasound, ultimately to work as a Sonographer at Manchester Foundation Trust? The candidate must have previous Radiography experience and ideally to have spent some time in ultrasound experiencing this modality and its clinical situations. The successful candidate will need to have good communication skills, an excellent manner with patients and the ability to be flexible. Previous experience of working in ultrasound is desirable, although training will be provided. Main duties of the job
Manchester Foundation Trust comprises of 5 hospital sites, St Mary's and Manchester Royal Infirmary are on the Oxford Road campus, with Wythenshawe, Withington and Trafford General in South Manchester, and North Manchester General located to the North of the city. The training will be delivered mainly at St. Marys and/or Wythenshawe; however, the successful trainee may be required to attend other site placements to gain experience in all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynaecology ultrasound. Cross site service delivery upon qualification will be a requirement of this post. The successful candidate will be part of a team of dedicated staff working together to provide the best possible Ultrasound service for the population of Manchester. The departments are equipped with high quality ultrasound equipment and sonographers who can supply quality practical ultrasound training. The Academic elements of the course will be delivered at the University of Salford starting January 2027. Therefore, the ability to attend Salford University is a prerequisite of the role. Essential
- BSc Radiography degree with 1st or 2nd class honours. Registration as a radiographer with the Healthcare Professions Council.
- Evidence of CPD.
- Evidence of further postgraduate studies an advantage.
- Evidence of completion of e-LFH

- Knowledge of obstetrics and gynaecology ultrasound.
- Comprehensive knowledge of human anatomy and complex pathology
- Experience working in an NHS trust setting or equivalent
- Knowledge of early human embryo development
- Experience working under pressure in a teaching hospital.
- Previous experience in manging and caring for patients.
- Minimum of 2 years post graduate experience in radiography.
- Minimum of 1 year as an employee at MFT.
