A well-established Secondary School in Colchester is looking for a confident School Administrator to join its administrative team and provide an efficient, professional service to students, parents, staff and visitors.

The School Administrator will play an important role in ensuring that the school's front office and administrative functions operate efficiently each day. You will be one of the first points of contact for parents, students, staff and visitors, so a friendly and professional manner is essential.

The role will involve handling telephone calls, emails and face-to-face enquiries, ensuring that queries are dealt with appropriately and passed to the relevant member of staff where necessary. You will need to communicate clearly and confidently while maintaining confidentiality at all times.

You will also support the wider administration of the school, including maintaining pupil records, preparing documents, updating databases, processing correspondence and assisting with general office duties. Accuracy will be particularly important, as you will be handling information relating to students, staff and school operations.

The school is looking for someone who can remain calm when the office becomes busy. There will be times when several tasks need to be completed at once, so you will need to prioritise effectively and understand which matters require immediate attention.

School Administrator - Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare letters, documents, reports and correspondence.

  • Maintain organised electronic and paper filing systems.

  • Ensure confidential information is handled appropriately.

  • Assist with student-related administrative tasks.

  • Welcome visitors and ensure appropriate visitor procedures are followed.

  • Assist the wider school office during particularly busy periods.

  • Prioritise tasks effectively and meet deadlines.

School Administrator - Experience and Requirements

  • Previous administrative experience is essential.

  • Experience working within a school or education environment is desirable.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong IT skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office.

  • Experience maintaining accurate records and databases.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to prioritise a varied workload.

  • Professional and approachable manner.

  • Ability to deal calmly with challenging or sensitive situations.
