Radioisotope Service Manager

Job summary
The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is Europe's largest Oncology centre with sites in Chelsea and Sutton. The Clinical Services Division is looking for an enthusiastic and well-motivated individual to lead our Nuclear Medicine Department (conventional Nuclear Medicine, PET CT and Nuclear Medicine Therapies) to cover a 12 month fixed term contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operational management of all Radioisotope Services over both sites, maintaining effective close working relationships between departments across the Trust, working closely and effectively with the relevant Clinical Leads and Scientists.The candidate will be expected to have a strong, consistent and effective leadership background, enabling high quality patient care whilst keeping within available resources. They will develop core services, ensuring clinical governance and improve quality of care as well as support the exploration of alternative models of service delivery.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the operational management of all Radioisotope Services over both sites. The post holder will be the Trust's lead for Conventional Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT and Nuclear Medicine Therapies (NMT) and will promote this service and enhance the reputation of the Trust both internally and externally through participation and attendance at National and International meetings. The post holder will be expected to participate fully in training of staff, locally, nationally and internationally, and will form links with educational institutions to facilitate this. The post holder will advise the Trust Board on professional issues relating to the Radioisotope Service. S/he will be a member of the Medical Exposures Committee, the Radiation Protection Committee, the Clinical Research Operational Group. S/he will liaise with other Services Manager to ensure ongoing participation in the Nursing Research and Rehabilitation Advisory Committee.

This post will demand patient contact as well as managerial and supervisory skills.

• To work closely with other professional groups within the Trust and to write or assist in the writing of policies and procedures to improve the quality of service provided.
• To ensure that any new policies are reviewed and approved by the appropriate Trust bodies.
• To monitor the Nuclear Medicine provision through internal and external review. To ensure that changes in users' requirements are recognised, monitored, planned for and where possible agreed and implemented.
• To embed the philosophy of Clinical Governance into Nuclear Medicine and, working with medical colleagues, ensure the annual Clinical Governance Action Plan is updated and implemented.
• As designated by the Deputy Divisional Director, to be responsible for the effective investigation of complaints in the services covered by this post, ensuring that Trust policy is followed, and timescales are met. In conjunction with Nuclear Medicine Technologist/ Nurses etc, to implement service changes that result from investigation into complaints or untoward incidents.
• To identify Risk Management issues for Nuclear Medicine and take an active role in implementing the Caldicott Guidelines.
• To attend external meetings as directed by the Deputy Divisional Director and participate in Trust wide project teams.
• To inform the Trust when determining the strategic direction of the RS
• To be familiar with and ensure the timely implementation of safety procedures throughout Nuclear Medicine.
• To take into account the financial, clinical, professional and logistical implications when determining or informing on future strategy.

Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
Essential

• BSc in Nuclear Medicine or Equivalent
• Evidence of relevant further education
• Professional Registration (if applicable)
• Evidence of Specialised Clinical Experience
• Training in venepuncture and cannulation

Desirable

• Management qualification.
• Post graduate teaching qualification
• Presentation at national/international meeting/conference

Experience
Essential

• Experience of Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT Technologist/radiographer and other staff management.
• Experience of appraising and developing staff
• Evidence of responsibility for delivering operational services.
• Evidence of leadership and team building
• Evidence of budgetary awareness and managing a budget
• Experience of delivering a training programme or managing change
