Application Instructions

Students should submit applications by 18 December 2026.

Applications will remain open throughout the year and late applications will be considered; however, students should be aware that they may not receive their preferred choices if a late application is received.

Once applications have been received, all applicants will be invited for an interview to discuss their application and ensure that their subject choices are suitable.

Course Summary

A Level Sociology is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to the study of society. It encourages critical thinking, independent research, and analytical skills, which are highly valued in higher education and employment.

Sociology is a subject which encourages political and social engagement with contemporary social issues. It involves being actively involved with social research and policy. You will gain an understanding of the significance of conflict and consensus, social structure and social action, and the role of values. Contemporary UK society is the central focus of study in this course. You will study the topics of family, education, beliefs in society and crime.

Paper 1 - written exam (33.3% of A Level)

Paper 2 - written exam (33.3% of A Level)

Paper 3 - written exam (33.3% of A Level)

Entry requirements

5 GCSE passes at grade 5 or above, to include a grade a 5 in English Language.

Universities recognise that the study of sociology provides an excellent foundation in social, political and policy knowledge.
