Level 2 BSL Teaching Assistant – Gateshead (Full-Time, September Start)
Do you have Level 2 British Sign Language (BSL) skills and a passion for supporting young people to thrive in education?
Protocol Education is recruiting a dedicated Level 2 BSL Teaching Assistant to work across specialist and mainstream educational settings in the Gateshead area from September 2025 .
This rewarding full-time role involves supporting learners with hearing impairments and communication needs, helping them access learning, develop independence, and build confidence in the classroom.
Please note: Due to the nature of the role, candidates must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle , as travel between multiple sites across Gateshead is required.

Key Responsibilities
- Support learners using British Sign Language (BSL)
- Facilitate effective communication between students, staff, and peers
- Adapt support to meet individual learning and communication needs
- Promote independence, confidence, and engagement in learning
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and specialist professionals
- Travel between educational settings within the Gateshead area as required
Skills & Experience
- Level 2 BSL qualification (or equivalent experience)
- Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Patient, adaptable, and supportive approach
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Ability to travel between sites across Gateshead

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position.
