Salary Scale: £92 - £115 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education Hull Branch are currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist educational setting in Scarborough. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who can provide consistent, nurturing support to pupils who may experience emotional, behavioural, and social difficulties that affect their learning.

About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and wider support staff to help pupils engage with learning, manage their emotions, and develop positive relationships. You will contribute to a calm, structured, and supportive environment where young people feel safe, understood, and encouraged to make progress.

Core Responsibilities of the SEMH Teaching Assistant

* Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEMH and additional needs.
* Build positive, trusting relationships while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.
* Support pupils with emotional regulation, confidence, resilience, and social development.
* Promote positive behaviour and respond calmly and consistently to challenging situations.
* Encourage engagement with learning and help pupils develop greater independence.
* Work collaboratively with teachers and wider staff to monitor progress and provide consistent support.

As the Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant, You Should Have

* Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional needs.
* A calm, patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting pupils.
* Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
* The ability to remain composed and professional when managing challenging behaviour or emotional situations.
* An understanding of positive behaviour strategies and the importance of consistent boundaries.
* A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.

To Work with GSL Education, You Must:

* Have the right to work in the UK.
* Have an up-to-date CV with at least 2 professional references covering the last 2 years.
* Have recent experience working with children or young people.
* Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
