Community Resource Worker
Job Introduction
Working for the Bradford Children and Families Trust offers the opportunity to work with some great people who are passionate about delivering change in a city whose culture offers as much diversity as it’s geography. You can make a real difference to families and children and be an active part in delivering the service Bradford families should receive.
We are fully committed to equal opportunities and we welcome applications from all backgrounds.
About the Role
We currently have a full time 37 Hours opportunity for a Community Resource Worker. You will be supporting Social Workers working with parents in pre-proceedings where domestic abuse is a concern and there have a child either under one or who are expecting a baby.
The Born into Care research revealed a concerning rise in newborns entering care proceedings, with cases in England and Wales increasing. Also, troubling were statistics showing that in 2019/20, 86.3% of newborn cases in England and 74.8% in Wales involved short-notice hearings.
A significant proportion of these parents were also in care as children. Broadhurst et al. (2017) found that 40% of mothers experiencing recurrent care proceedings had looked after status as children. This gives the state an additional moral and ethical responsibility towards these parents, as corporate parent and grandparent.
These patterns reflect a growing need for holistic, multi-agency, ‘personalised’ support for parents who experience separation from their children to help them make lasting changes and build more positive futures for themselves and their families, whether or whether not they are able to care for their children themselves
You will deliver a planned and focused intensive intervention utilising trauma informed approaches to coordinate and ensure delivery of individualised support packages to help parents to build strength, resilience, overcome challenges, gain confidence and acquire the personal and social assets to move forwards in their lives to become safer adults and parents.
The role will require you to work directly with parents and building relationships and trust with.
This really is a hands on role and at the frontline of ensuring that every child has the best start in life.
Our strategic vision and values are upheld across the Trust, fostering a reliable and supportive environment for both staff and the children in our care.
Our approach is rooted in restorative and relational practice, fostering trust, mutual respect, and meaningful relationships with children, families, and professionals.
You’ll also
- Direct work with parents to understand the domestic abuse, what drives it and what keeps it going.
- Attend formulation meetings as a team to hypothesise parents needs to better understand what intervention they require to overcome the concerns
- Coordinate and ensure delivery of individualised support packages for parents in line with the formulation of need
- Review the impact of interventions coordinated for and delivered to parents
To be successful in this role you will need:
- You must hold a minimum Level 3 Diploma working with children and young people or other relevant qualifications (for example: A Relevant degree, Dip S.W, RGN, Teaching, Youth and Community etc) or equivalent as specified by the service if this is supported by 2 years' experience of working with children)
- Experience – Adequate continuous experience of working with children and young people.
- Good Communication skills
- A driving licence and access to a car with Business Insurance unless a disability prevents this.
You’ll also be joining an organisation that truly values its people, offering a range of benefits designed to support your wellbeing, growth, and work-life balance, including:
- Enhanced annual leave entitlement: 31 days rising to 34 with service (plus bank holidays)
- Excellent local Government pension
- Competitive salary and pay progression structure
- Supportive carer and parental policies
- Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave
- Access to Occupational Health and confidential counselling services
- Supportive staff networks
- Access to Blue Light Card discounts, including cost of living support
- Professional development/support and opportunities career progression
Bradford Children and Families Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all employees to share this commitment.
If shortlisted, you will be required to disclose relevant information regarding criminal history prior to interview.
A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check including a check against the Children’s barred list, will be carried out on preferred candidates.
