Learning Support Assistant/Teaching Assistant (West Watford, Abbots Langley)

We are looking for Learning Support Assistants to join our friendly and dedicated team. 

Our school

Breakspeare is a forward thinking, active and popular special school with a diverse range of students. We have approximately 158 students on roll, aged between 2 and 19. All our students have Severe or Profound Learning Difficulties, in addition to which many have a complex medical, physical or sensory impairment; autism or speech, language and communication needs.

Our whole school community contributes to making Breakspeare a safe, happy and outstanding environment for our students and staff to learn and develop, making a significant difference to their lives, both now and in the future.

We are part of the successful Sunflower Federation, which was established in May 2017 and is formed of two schools, namely Breakspeare and Meadow Wood.

This is an exciting time to join us as we are expanding to meet the need for more special school places in Hertfordshire and are excited to have recently opened a new satellite unit in West Watford. We now have opportunities for staff to join us, with on the job training available from our experienced team across all sites West Watford, Bushey and Abbots Langley

The role 

We are looking for Learning Support Assistants to support our special needs students' learning in the classroom throughout the school day.

This might include;

• Helping the class teacher to plan, deliver and evaluate specialist learning activities

• Working with pupils on therapy or care programmes, designed and supervised by a therapist/care professional

• Supervising individuals and groups of pupils throughout the day, including in the classroom, playground and dining areas.

• Attending to pupils’ personal needs, as well as help with social, welfare and health matters to maintain and provide healthy and safe school environment.

A warm and friendly nature and a calm and patient approach are important.

Experience of working with pupils who have learning difficulties would be an advantage but is not essential as we offer extensive training.

Practical info

The salary range for this post is H3.1-H3.2 £25,583 - £25,989 pro rata.

The hours are 09.00 to 3.30pm Monday to Friday - 30 hours per week, term time
