SEND Tutor - Rediscover the Joy of Teaching

Pay: £30-£42 per hour | Flexible | West Sussex

If you're an experienced teacher who loves working with young people but feels constrained by classroom pressures, SEND tutoring with BrightTeach offers a refreshing alternative.

This role allows you to return to what drew you into teaching in the first place: meaningful relationships, personalised learning, and seeing real progress. Working 1:1, you'll have the time and space to adapt your teaching, respond to emotional needs, and celebrate small but powerful successes with learners who often need belief as much as instruction.

Many former teachers find this role professionally restorative, giving them autonomy, flexibility, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide in-person educational tuition to children and young people with SEND needs (at times, tuition is provided online; however, the majority is face to face).
• Plan, prepare, and teach a range of bespoke and student-centred lessons to ensure student engagement and progress.
• Establish SMART targets for all learners and regularly review progress against these.
• Design interventions that will support both the emotional and academic engagement of students.
• Safeguard the welfare of students, including following the defined safeguarding processes in line with our safeguarding policy.
• Ensure regular reporting of attendance, progress, and behavioural presentation relating to your students following each session.
• Carry out risk assessments of environments and activities to ensure student safety
• Attendance and participation at multi-agency meetings and staff CPD opportunities

Who we are looking for

• Qualified Teachers with a teaching qualification (QTS) or practitioners with significant classroom experience.
• Significant experience supporting students with SEND in either the primary, secondary or college sector.
• Engaging educators who are knowledgeable, passionate, and have an understanding of how to engage and motivate learners who may have experienced challenges in their educational journey.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to have a DBS check taken out on you.
• The completion of safeguarding training/knowledge of safeguarding, and of creating a safe learning environment.
• Excellent subject knowledge.
• Excellent written and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently.}
