Protocol Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to work within a welcoming school setting in the Peterlee area.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who genuinely enjoys supporting children and wants to make a positive difference to their learning, confidence, communication and development .

You will work closely with the class teacher and wider support team, providing targeted support to pupils who may require additional help to access the curriculum and engage positively with school life.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities may include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support.
• Supporting pupils to access the curriculum.
• Breaking down tasks into manageable steps.
• Reinforcing instructions and learning.
• Supporting literacy and numeracy development.
• Encouraging communication and interaction.
• Helping pupils develop confidence and independence.
• Supporting children with additional learning needs.
• Promoting positive behaviour and engagement.
• Supporting emotional regulation where required.
• Helping pupils manage transitions throughout the school day.
• Supporting classroom activities and practical learning.
• Assisting during break and lunchtime.
• Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
• Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and other support staff.
• Sharing observations and contributing to pupil progress.

Previous experience within SEND, schools, childcare, youth work, care, support work or mentoring would be advantageous.

Drivers Ideally Wanted

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle would be highly desirable , particularly as some of the schools and specialist settings around Peterlee and the surrounding villages can be difficult to reach by public transport.

However, driving is not essential , and we would still love to hear from strong candidates who can reliably get to their placement.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
