We cover a diverse range of surgical specialties, including Sarcoma and Melanoma, Upper and Lower GI, Plastics, Head and Neck, Gynaecology, Urology and Breast, using a wide range of conventional, minimally invasive and robotic surgical techniques.

Main duties of the job

• To be a expert practitioner in Recovery and act as an effective, professional and clinical role model. To lead, co-ordinate, organise and take full responsibility and accountability for the daily management and organisation of Recovery in Chelsea; this involves managing a wide range of complex and sometimes conflicting priorities including staff management. To work in accordance with the NMC/HCPC Code of Professional Conduct, Trust policies and Procedures and National guidelines.
• As a member of the theatre team to perform all the tasks of an ODP/theatre nurse including all checks and procedures as laid down in National and Trust Theatre Policy. To demonstrate sound knowledge base of safe decontamination processes and practices, particularly relating to the safe decontamination of flexible scopes & sterilisation of instruments
• As a member of the surgical theatres team perform the tasks of theatre runner, supporting the instrument nurse/ surgeon and other members of the multidisciplinary team where necessary.

• To provide sound clinical leadership and develop support mechanisms for sharing good practice within the Department and Trust wide.
• Monitor the quality of clinical care and action audit information to achieve agreed standards and take the lead on customer care initiatives.

Person Specification
Education / Qualification
Essential

• First level NMC Registered Nurse/ HCPC registered ODP
• Post registration education in a relevant speciality
• Teaching and assessing qualification
• Evidence of continuing education and development
• Evidence of training in operational management and staff development
• Anaesthetic and Recovery experience at the senior level
• Degree qualification in a relevant subject

Desirable

• Working toward a Master's degree
• Teaching and assessing qualification

Experience
Essential

• Current experience in a senior operating theatre role (Anaesthetic/Recovery) or senior staff nurse role (Anaesthetic/Recovery)
• Experience in recruitment, selection and retention of staff
• Experience of clinical governance issue such as investigation incidents/ complaints
• Evidence of organising and delivering education for multi professional staff
• Experience in staff development plans & appraisal process
• Experience of working with IT systems used in theatre

Desirable

• Experience in a senior leadership role
• Experience of disseminating work through presentation or publication
• Experience of managing financial budgets; cost containment strategies
• Experience of dealing with HR issues relating performance/capability
