Outreach SEND Tutor - SEN Learning Support

Luma Education Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting for an Outreach Tutor / SEND Tutor to join a welcoming and supportive specialist education setting in Totnes, Devon .

This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate, patient and enthusiastic education professional who enjoys working on a more personalised basis and helping young people develop confidence in their learning.

The role involves supporting pupils with SEND, additional learning needs, EBSNA/EBSA, autism and social, emotional and communication needs , providing engaging and personalised learning that helps young people reconnect with education and make positive progress.

You will work closely with experienced teachers and the wider education team, developing positive relationships with pupils and helping them build confidence, independence, communication and life skills .

The setting provides a supportive environment with training, professional development and opportunities for progression for the right person .

The Role

As an Outreach Tutor / SEND Tutor , you will provide personalised educational support to young people who benefit from a more individualised approach to learning.

You will adapt activities and learning to suit individual interests, strengths and needs, creating positive learning experiences and encouraging pupils to participate and achieve.

The role would suit someone who enjoys working creatively, building strong relationships and finding positive ways to engage young people in education.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging and personalised learning activities.
• Provide one-to-one and small-group educational support.
• Build positive, trusting and consistent relationships with pupils.
• Adapt learning to individual needs, interests and abilities.
• Encourage young people to participate and develop confidence in learning.
• Support pupils to develop independence and communication skills.
• Help young people develop practical, social and life skills.
• Encourage positive engagement with education.
• Work alongside teachers and the wider support team.
• Monitor and celebrate pupil progress.
• Provide positive encouragement and feedback.
• Support pupils across different learning environments and activities.
• Contribute to individual learning and development plans.
• Maintain a positive, welcoming and inclusive learning environment.

About You

You do not necessarily need previous outreach or specialist SEND teaching experience .

We are interested in candidates who have strong communication skills, a positive approach and a genuine passion for helping young people learn and develop.

Your background could be in teaching, tutoring, SEND, education, youth work, childcare, psychology, sports coaching, health and social care or another people-focused environment .

Essential Requirements

• Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle - essential.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• A genuine interest in supporting young people with additional needs.
• Enhanced DBS clearance, or willingness to obtain one, prior to starting.

Qualifications & Experience

A teaching, tutoring or education qualification would be beneficial, but we are also keen to hear from candidates with relevant transferable experience .

Experience in SEND, SEN, EBSNA/EBSA, autism, SEMH, youth work, care, mentoring, tutoring or education would be advantageous.

Full training, guidance and ongoing support will be provided , with opportunities for professional development, additional training and progression for the right person .
