Location: Cambridge & Hybrid working (40-60% in office)
Contract: Permanent, Full-time
Hours: 35 hours per week (some weekend working may be required during peak periods)
Are you an experienced languages specialist with a passion for high-quality assessment and international education?
We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on learners around the world by helping to shape and deliver qualifications that support students to unlock their potential and succeed. As part of our Languages team, you will work with colleagues, assessment specialists and international partners to develop and maintain trusted assessments used by learners and teachers globally.
About the role
As Senior Assessment Manager, Languages, you will be a subject specialist responsible for quality-assuring and signing off assessments that students sit at the end of their programmes of study. You will manage a portfolio of language syllabuses, ensuring the successful development and delivery of high-quality assessment materials.
We are home to many former teachers and education professionals who have successfully transitioned into assessment management. This role offers an opportunity to use your subject expertise and educational experience in a different way, helping to shape high-quality qualifications that support learners around the world while continuing to make a meaningful impact on education.
As part of the University of Cambridge, we work to exceptionally high standards. Every question paper must be completely accurate, every assessment must measure exactly what it is intended to assess, and every grade threshold must provide a reliable indication of a learner's achievement for employers and universities around the world. In this role, you will ensure assessments remain comparable across exam series and over time, while maintaining fairness for candidates from different countries and educational contexts. You will play a key role in shaping the future of Cambridge International Languages qualifications for learners and teachers around the world.
Working with a broad range of stakeholders, you will manage a varied portfolio of responsibilities. This includes recruiting and leading Assessment Specialists, including Setters, Revisers, Vetters and Assistant Examiners, overseeing their allocation of work, performance and succession planning. You will also work closely with ministry customers and international partners to develop and revise syllabuses, helping to ensure our qualifications continue to meet the needs of learners globally.
Additional responsibilities and accountabilities include:
Managing the lifecycle of a portfolio of language syllabuses.
Working with colleagues to design and develop syllabuses.
Overseeing the production and delivery of assessment materials.
Managing grading processes and supporting the setting of grade thresholds.
Planning future examination series and assessment development activities.
This position has been classified as a hybrid role, requiring the selected candidate to typically spend 40-60% of their time collaborating and connecting face-to-face at their dedicated location. Aside from our hybrid principles, other flexible working requests will be considered from the first day of employment, including other work arrangements should you require adjustments due to a disability or long-term health condition.
About You
You will bring strong language expertise, excellent English language skills and a sound understanding of assessment in an educational setting. With experience gained through teaching or educational practice, you will be comfortable applying your subject knowledge to the development and management of high-quality assessments. You may be asked to manage syllabuses in languages you do not currently speak, so strong transferable linguistic skills, curiosity and an enthusiasm for learning will be essential.
Minimum requirements:
A degree in one or more languages.
Knowledge of at least one language in addition to English.
Strong transferable linguistic skills and the ability to identify and interpret features of languages you do not currently speak.
A very high standard of English (C2 CEFR).
Strong knowledge of assessment within an education setting.
Classroom teaching experience.
If you meet the above minimum requirements, we encourage you to apply. Your application will be even stronger if you can also demonstrate the following desirable criteria:
Knowledge of Spanish and/or Arabic.
A postgraduate qualification in educational assessment or project management.
Examining experience.
Knowledge of international education.
