If so, Randstad Education wants to hear from you. We are currently recruiting adaptable SEN Teaching Assistants for flexible, day-to-day cover-offering both part-time and full-time options-within an Ofsted-rated 'Good' Specialist Inclusive Learning Centre (SILC) based across the West Leeds area.

About the School

They are a forward-thinking, multi-site Specialist Inclusive Learning Centre (SILC) providing exemplary education for pupils aged 2 to 19 with a diverse range of complex needs. Their provision encompasses severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), autism spectrum conditions (ASC), complex medical needs, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) requirements.

Operating across a dedicated specialist campus, a purpose-built 16+ post-16 hub, and co-located partnership bases within local mainstream primary and secondary schools, they offer a uniquely inclusive model. The school focuses heavily on tailored curriculum pathways-ranging from informal sensory learning to vocational and semi-formal routes-supported by an on-site multi-disciplinary team of therapeutic and healthcare specialists.

Job Role and Responsibilities

In this flexible supply role, you will step in on a day-to-day basis across their different West Leeds sites and age phases, working with varied pupil profiles:

• Supporting individual pupils and small groups with bespoke learning tasks aligned to their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.
• Facilitating multi-sensory learning, sensory integration breaks, and structured calm routines for pupils with high-level ASC or SEMH needs.
• Utilising specialist communication approaches-including PECS, Makaton, and visual schedules-to enable non-verbal and pre-verbal learners to express choices.
• Assisting with physical management, mobility equipment (e.g., hoists and standing frames), and personal care routines where required for PMLD and medical needs.
• Working collaboratively alongside class teachers, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists to maintain a safe, positive environment.
• Supporting older students within post-16 settings to develop independent living, community engagement, and life skills.

Skills Required

• The adaptability and confidence to work seamlessly across different classroom settings, age groups (EYFS to Post-16), and learning pathways.
• Practical experience supporting children or young adults with SLD, PMLD, autism, or SEMH within an education, residential, or care setting.
• Familiarity with visual support strategies, total communication techniques, or basic Makaton.
• A calm, resilient, and proactive demeanour, with a strong commitment to understanding behaviour as a form of communication.

Essential Requirements

• Previous experience supporting children or young people with special educational needs (SEN) within the UK.
• Full eligibility to work in the UK (please note, visa sponsorship is not available for this role).
• An Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to undergo a new check via Randstad.
