Substance Misuse Recovery Worker – Newham
Location: Newham, London
Pay: £20–£24 per hour, depending on experience
Start: Immediate
DBS: Must hold a valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
We are currently looking for an experienced Substance Misuse Recovery Worker to join a busy service in Newham , supporting individuals throughout their treatment and recovery journey.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience working within drug and alcohol services who is passionate about helping people reduce substance-related harm and make positive, sustainable changes in their lives.
The Role
As a Recovery Worker, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide high-quality, recovery-focused support to service users.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting service users from initial engagement through their treatment and recovery journey.
- Completing comprehensive assessments and developing individual recovery plans.
- Delivering 1-to-1 key work, structured psychosocial interventions and group work .
- Providing harm reduction advice and brief interventions.
- Carrying out risk assessments and contributing to risk management.
- Providing triage and onward referrals to appropriate treatment and community support services.
- Working closely with prescribing clinicians, health services, GPs and other partner agencies.
- Supporting service users to develop recovery resources, resilience and recovery capital.
- Promoting social reintegration, independence and meaningful engagement within the community.
- Providing education around harm minimisation, blood-borne viruses and overdose prevention.
- Supporting appropriate screening processes, including urine and saliva testing, where trained and appropriate.
- Supporting harm reduction initiatives, including needle exchange and naloxone distribution, following appropriate training.
- Maintaining accurate and timely case records and service-user information.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, volunteers, peer mentors and external agencies.
The role requires someone who can build strong therapeutic relationships, engage effectively with service users and work confidently with individuals who may have complex needs.
About You
To be considered, you will need:
- Experience working within drug and alcohol/substance misuse services.
- A strong understanding of substance misuse issues and recovery-focused practice.
- Experience working in an outcomes-focused environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to manage your own workload and prioritise effectively.
- Experience of multi-agency working and partnership building.
- A commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- The ability to engage effectively with hard-to-reach and marginalised service users.
