About the role
Our client, an industrial organisation based in France, is looking for an experienced HSE Supervisor to join its team on a contract basis. The role is responsible for making sure health, safety and environmental standards are applied consistently across site operations, supporting both management and the wider workforce.
You will carry out day-to-day monitoring of working practices, supporting risk assessments, inspections and incident investigations, and following up on corrective actions until they are closed out. You will be a visible, practical presence on site, advising colleagues on safe working methods and encouraging a positive safety culture.
The role also supports compliance and reporting, from maintaining HSE records and permits to contributing to audits and performance reporting. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with operations, maintenance and contractors, and confident in challenging unsafe practice in a constructive way.
Main responsibilities
- Supervise the implementation of HSE policies, procedures and standards across site activities
- Carry out regular site inspections, safety walks and workplace audits, and record and follow up findings
- Support the preparation, review and communication of risk assessments and method statements
- Manage permit to work systems and check that controls are in place before high-risk work starts
- Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions, identify root causes and track corrective actions
- Deliver toolbox talks, inductions and safety briefings to employees and contractors
- Monitor contractor activity and check compliance with site rules and safety requirements
- Support environmental compliance, including waste management, spill prevention and emergency response arrangements
- Maintain accurate HSE records and prepare reports and performance statistics for management
- Support internal and external audits and help to close out audit actions
- Promote safe behaviours and engage the workforce in ongoing safety improvement
Requirements
Essential
- Previous experience in an HSE Supervisor, HSE Officer or similar role within an industrial, manufacturing or engineering environment
- Sound knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation and good practice
- Experience of risk assessment, incident investigation and safety auditing
- Familiarity with permit to work systems and the management of contractors on site
- Clear communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence people at all levels
- Good IT skills, including the use of reporting and record-keeping systems
Desirable
- A recognised HSE qualification, such as NEBOSH or an equivalent
- Experience of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems
- Experience of emergency response planning and drills
- Previous experience of working on a contract basis
