Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Physiotherapist to join the Learning Disability Service at Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust on a 12-month fixed-term contract or secondment to cover maternity leave.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated physiotherapist who is interested in developing specialist skills while working with adults with learning disabilities. The role offers the opportunity to work with individuals who have complex physical, sensory, communication and behavioural needs, supporting them to achieve the best possible health, mobility, independence and quality of life.

The successful candidate will be based within our Community Learning Disability Team covering the West and South areas of Leeds and will become part of a well-established multidisciplinary team including Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Dietitians, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Nurses, Support Workers and Speech and Language Therapists.

The role offers a varied caseload and opportunities to develop skills in areas including postural management, mobility, falls prevention, pain management, respiratory care, hydrotherapy and rebound therapy. You will undertake specialist assessments, develop person-centred treatment plans, provide training and advice to carers and support providers, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality physiotherapy interventions.

Job responsibilities
You will provide specialist physiotherapy assessment, treatment and advice for adults with learning disabilities who have complex physical health needs that cannot be met through mainstream services.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary Community Learning Disability Team, you will manage a varied caseload, developing person-centred treatment plans and delivering interventions to promote mobility, physical health, independence and quality of life.

The role includes supporting individuals with postural management, mobility difficulties, falls prevention, pain management, respiratory care, hydrotherapy and rebound therapy, as needed.

You will work closely with families, carers and support providers, offering training and guidance to ensure physiotherapy programmes are implemented safely and effectively. In addition, you will contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, student education and the supervision of support staff, while being supported through regular clinical supervision and continuing professional development opportunities.

The service operates Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and supports flexible and agile working through the provision of laptops and mobile technology.

Qualifications

• Degree/MSc in Physiotherapy and current HCPC registration.

Experience

• Experience of assessment and treatment across a range of core physiotherapy clinical areas.

Knowledge

• Understanding of learning disability and the impact this can have on health, wellbeing and quality of life.

Skills

• Ability to communicate effectively with service users, carers and professionals and build positive therapeutic relationships.
• Ability to organise, prioritise and manage a caseload effectively.
