Inspire. Empower. Prepare for Adulthood.
Are you passionate about helping young people with Special Educational Needs achieve their full potential? Do you believe learning should extend beyond the classroom and into the heart of the community?
We are looking for a compassionate, enthusiastic and creative Health & Social Care Teacher to join our dedicated team at our small independent SEN sixth form.
This is a unique opportunity to shape an engaging Level 1 Introduction to Health and Social Care programme while supporting students to develop the confidence, independence and life skills they need for adulthood.
You’ll also have the opportunity to deliver Functional Skills in English, Mathematics and/or ICT, embedding these into practical, meaningful learning experiences that prepare students for further education, volunteering and employment.
About the Role
This is far more than a teaching role.
You’ll be supporting young people with a range of additional needs to develop confidence, communication and independence through both classroom learning and real-life experiences.
Working closely with colleagues, families and community partners, you will help students explore the world around them through activities such as:
Community cafés
Local social and charity events
Care homes
Childcare and early years settings
Volunteering opportunities
Community projects and educational visits
These experiences help our students develop essential social communication skills, workplace awareness, confidence and a genuine sense of belonging within their local community.
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
Has experience teaching and supporting learners with Special Educational Needs.
Has a qualification or experience in Health and Social Care or a related vocational area.
Can deliver engaging and accessible lessons tailored to individual learning needs.
Is confident in supporting Functional Skills in English, Mathematics and ICT.
Is passionate about preparing young people for adulthood.
Builds positive relationships based on trust, patience and encouragement.
Enjoys thinking creatively and adapting learning to suit every student.
Values teamwork and enjoys working as part of a close-knit, supportive school community.
What You’ll Be Doing
Delivering an engaging Level 1 Health and Social Care programme.
Successfully delivering City and Guilds qualifications.
Embedding Functional Skills learning into practical experiences.
Providing excellent pastoral support to students.
Planning and leading community-based learning opportunities.
Building relationships with local organisations and employers.
Supporting students to develop independence, communication and employability skills.
Monitoring progress and celebrating every achievement, however small.
Why Join Us?
As a small independent SEN school, we pride ourselves on knowing every student as an individual.
Our staff work collaboratively to create a nurturing, supportive and ambitious environment where young people feel safe, valued and inspired to succeed.
In return, we offer:
Small class sizes.
A supportive and friendly staff team.
Opportunities to develop innovative and creative teaching approaches.
Ongoing professional development.
The chance to make a genuine and lasting difference to the lives of young people with SEN.
A rewarding role where no two days are the same.
A shorter school day.
Safeguarding
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to satisfactory enhanced DBS checks, references and safer recruitment procedures.
