Interim Finance Consultant (Manufacturing Scale-up)

Location: Hybrid - Bristol, with travel to London

Duration: 4-6 months

Rate: £450 - £550pd - Outside IR35

Reports to: COO

About the Role

A well-backed manufacturing scale-up is transitioning from R&D into commercial production. They are seeking an Interim Finance Consultant to design and implement stock, inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS) processes in their ERP, and to own the finance side of the ERP-MES integration. This is a hands-on, standalone role with no team to delegate to the successful candidate will have full ownership to build these processes from the ground up, leaving behind a documented, repeatable process for the permanent team to run after handover.

Key Responsibilities

Main Focus;

• Design and implement stock, inventory and COGS processes in the ERP system, covering costing method, valuation, bills of materials, and WIP and finished goods tracking
• Own the month-end reconciliation between the ERP and the manufacturing execution system (MES)
• Own the ERP-MES integration from the finance side, ensuring production data flows into the ledger accurately
• Leave behind a documented, repeatable process the permanent team can run after handover

Reporting and scaling finance processes

• Improve management reporting and put in place the controls and processes needed to move from R&D into commercial production
• Build gross margin and unit cost reporting
• Move the business to production-based cost accounting as it scales

Stakeholder engagement and management

• Work closely with production, engineering and finance teams to understand shop floor operations, agree data ownership and process changes, and drive adoption of new ways of working
• Act as the main point of contact for group finance agreeing reporting requirements, accounting policies and timelines up front, and keeping stakeholders updated on progress and risks
• Manage expectations so that delivery aligns with group-level policies and needs

Candidate Profile

• Hands-on ERP implementation experience in a manufacturing or scale-up setting
• Comfortable delivering alone with minimal support
• Strong understanding of shop floor operations
• Able to explain finance to non-finance teams, with the emotional intelligence to hold their own with senior group stakeholders
• Ideally has experience remediating a poorly executed ERP rollout, and understands what good looks like from the outset
