We are seeking a capable, commercially aware and motivated Arboricultural Consultant to join a growing consultancy team delivering high-quality arboricultural advice across planning, development, infrastructure, land management and tree risk projects. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys the balance of site-based surveying, clear technical reporting, practical problem-solving and professional client liaison, with scope to develop specialist expertise and progress within a supportive multidisciplinary environment.
The Opportunity
You will work on a varied portfolio of projects, including residential, commercial, public sector, utility, infrastructure, renewable energy and estate-based work. The role will involve delivering BS 5837:2012 surveys and reports, tree safety inspections, arboricultural impact assessments, tree protection strategies, method statements, condition assessments and construction-stage monitoring. You will be trusted to manage work proportionate to your experience while being supported by senior colleagues, technical specialists and wider team.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake arboricultural surveys, including BS 5837:2012 surveys, tree condition assessments, tree risk surveys and specialist inspections where appropriate.
- Prepare clear, proportionate and technically robust reports, including Tree Survey Reports, Tree Constraints Plans, Arboricultural Impact Assessments, Arboricultural Method Statements and Tree Protection Plans.
- Provide practical arboricultural advice to clients, planners, design teams, contractors, landowners and internal multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Support planning and development projects from feasibility and design through to construction monitoring, supervision and condition discharge.
- Use relevant survey, mapping and reporting software to collect data accurately and produce professional schedules, plans and outputs.
- Manage agreed project scopes, budgets, deadlines and client expectations, with support where required.
- Contribute to quotations, tenders, client relationships and the continued development of arboricultural services.

Preferred Skills
Professional arboricultural consultancy experience, ideally including BS 5837:2012 survey work and planning-related reporting
A relevant arboricultural qualification, preferably Level 4 or above, or demonstrable equivalent professional experience.
Strong tree identification, condition assessment and arboricultural knowledge, including pests, diseases, defects, risk management and relevant UK planning context.
Confident written communication skills, with the ability to produce concise, accurate and client-ready reports.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, QGIS, tree survey software or similar digital tools, or a clear willingness to develop these skills.
Professional, personable, organised and pragmatic approach, with the ability to work independently, justify decisions and recommendations, manage time effectively and collaborate with wider teams.
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites as required
Ideally we are looking for some with the following experience:
- Lantra Professional Tree Inspection qualification or experience using recognised tree risk assessment systems.
- Experience within arboricultural the Arboricultural industry, TPO and Conservation area matters, Planning, veteran trees, ancient woodland or woodland management planning.
- An Arboricultural Qualification to Level 4 or higher with demonstrable professional experience.
- Membership of the Arboricultural Association, Institute of Chartered Foresters or another relevant professional body.
