This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a progressive and passionate team in Haematology with opportunities to develop skills and knowledge, whilst embedding learning within your role.

The post holder will work as an important member of the Haematology Multidisciplinary Team within Southmead Hospital Operating Unit, collaborating with a range of health care providers in the local community and across the regional Network.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as an important member of the Haematology Multidisciplinary Team within Southmead Hospital Operating Unit, collaborating with a range of health care providers in the local community and across the regional Network..

Depending on experience the post holder will provide specialist nursing advice and skills to support patients (in and out patients) and their carers and families throughout their care pathway.

The post holder will utilise or be supported in learning the skills of leadership, advanced clinical expertise, specialist education and management to ensure a seamless service for patients, carers and staff.

Highly complex advice, support and information will be utilised and/or developed from the time of diagnosis and throughout the curative, palliative and terminal phases. Working closely with the wider multidisciplinary teams in the hospital and the community to ensure a co-ordinated quality service.

There are opportunities to develop skills or run nurse led clinics in preassessment where skills of prescribing and assessing patients will be used or can be working towards. You will be supported and expected to participate in education, audit, research, service improvement and patient experience as part of this exciting role.

Professional knowledge and expertise
RGN Level 1 and current NMC Registration Evidence of Degree level qualification in relevant subject Evidence or working towards Masters Level in relevant subject, or willingness to work towards A relevant teaching qualification Highly developed or developing specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and experience of the care and management of patients with haematological cancers and non haematological conditions including:- Acute presentations of malignancy, complications of the disease process and progression- Patient pathways and current approaches to patient follow up including My Medical Record- Up to date knowledge and understanding of national and local cancer developments

Problem-solving and decision-making
To hold, or work towards nurse led clinics including assessment and treatment for patients

To have the ability or work towards managing a fluctuating caseload and unpredictable levels of patient referrals and request for specialist advice

Experience or working towards the ability in facilitation, negotiation and influencing

To support or work towards supporting patients unwell on their treatments

Manage daily work within the team, either leading or supporting the wider team

Planning and coordination
To be responsible or support the team in leading and planning for day to day workload

To manage or support the team in planning the provision of day to day organisational tasks for self and others with the ability to flexible and adaptable, and to prioritise.

To keep accurate and up to date patient records across a number of systems

To be responsible or support the development of up to date day to day job plans in order to maximise team efficiency and effectiveness

Practical and technical skills

Utilise or work towards the authorisation of blood products following successful completion of National Blood Service Training

Be familiar or familiarise understanding of protocols to support nurse led clinics

Service development and improvement
To lead or support on the service development identifying gaps through patient experience or service review through audit and research

To collate and record qualitative and quantitative data that provides evidence of productivity, outcomes and quality

To promote a culture of evidence based current practice

To be involved in health promotion and support

To remain up to date with research available for patients in Haematology

To gain and review patient experience feedback to provide improvements to service
