Learning Mentor - September Start

Full Time • Long Term • Term Time Only Tower Hamlets £105-£115 per day DOE

A nurturing and community‑driven primary school in Tower Hamlets is looking for a motivated and compassionate Learning Mentor to join their team from September . The school prides itself on its strong pastoral foundations, inclusive culture and commitment to helping every child feel safe, supported and ready to learn. Staff work cohesively, behaviour is well‑structured, and leaders champion emotional wellbeing alongside academic progress.

This long‑term role is ideal for graduates who are eager to make a meaningful impact on children's development and who thrive in environments where relationships, consistency and positive reinforcement are central.

Role Overview

As a Learning Mentor, you will support pupils who face academic, emotional, behavioural or social challenges. You will work closely with teachers, pastoral leads and the SEN team to deliver targeted interventions that help pupils build confidence, regulate emotions and engage positively in school life.

Key Duties
  • Provide 1:1 and small‑group mentoring to pupils needing additional guidance

  • Encourage resilience, self‑esteem and constructive learning habits

  • Support emotional regulation, social interaction and classroom engagement

  • Collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff and SEN professionals to ensure joined‑up support

  • Track pupil progress and maintain clear, accurate intervention records

  • Promote positive behaviour and act as a calm, consistent role model

  • Reinforce attendance, punctuality and readiness to learn

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, families and staff

Candidate Profile
  • Degree essential (Psychology, Criminology, Social Sciences, Education Studies, Arts or similar advantageous)

  • Experience supporting children or young people in schools, youth work, mentoring or tutoring

  • Calm, patient and empathetic approach

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly

  • Confidence supporting pupils with additional or complex needs

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
