The Organisation

The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority was established as a new organisation in early 2024.  It is a public sector employer with access to powers and funding to unlock transport and housing improvements, boost skills provision and help the economy transition to net zero for York and North Yorkshire. The Mayor also holds responsibilities in relation to Policing, Fire and Crime. The Opportunity

We are seeking two exceptional Executive Assistants to provide strategic executive support to either the Mayor or Deputy Mayor in a fast-paced, high-profile and politically sensitive environment. This is far more than a traditional PA role. You will operate at the centre of decision-making, helping to coordinate priorities, manage stakeholder relationships and ensure the smooth running of executive business.

Please note if successful, Police Vetting may be required for these roles.

Key Responsibilities

We are looking for a highly organised and politically aware professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and can confidently work with senior leaders and stakeholders.

You will have:

· Significant experience supporting senior executives, elected members or other high-profile public figures.

· Experience managing complex, competing priorities and tight deadlines.

· Outstanding organisational, communication and relationship management skills.

· The ability to analyse information, exercise judgement and provide practical recommendations.

· Experience operating within confidential and politically sensitive environments.

· A strong understanding of governance, accountability and public sector decision-making.

· A proactive, resilient and adaptable approach, with the confidence to work independently and exercise delegated authority when required.

Experience working within local government, a Combined Authority, policing, fire and rescue services, Parliament, or supporting elected politicians would be particularly advantageous.

About You

You will:

· Manage complex and highly demanding executive diaries and commitments.

· Coordinate high-profile meetings, visits, events and stakeholder engagements.

· Prepare and quality assure briefings, speeches, correspondence and reports.

· Act as a trusted liaison between elected office holders, senior officers, government departments and partners.

· Anticipate issues, identify risks and help ensure priorities are delivered effectively.

· Handle confidential and politically sensitive matters with professionalism, discretion and sound judgement.

· Represent the Mayor's Office at meetings and events when required.
