£13 - £15 per hour
Full-time

Pastoral Learning Mentor - Further Education College

Location: South Yorkshire

Start Date: September 2026

Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term (Agency Placement)

Pay Rate: £13.00 - £15.00 per hour (dependent on experience)

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established further education college in South Yorkshire for a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Learning Mentor to join their team from September 2026.

This is a full-time, long-term opportunity ideal for an individual who is passionate about supporting young people and adults to overcome barriers to learning, improve their engagement, and achieve their personal and educational goals.

The Role:

As a Pastoral Learning Mentor, you will provide targeted pastoral and learning support to students, helping them to develop the confidence, resilience, and skills needed to succeed in education.

You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, safeguarding leads, and other support services to identify and address barriers that may be affecting a student's attendance, behaviour, wellbeing, or progress.

Students may present with a range of needs, including:

  • Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)

  • Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

  • Anxiety and low confidence

  • Moderate learning difficulties

  • Behavioural and emotional needs

  • Difficulties with attendance, engagement, or motivation

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group pastoral and mentoring support

  • Building positive, trusting relationships with students and acting as a consistent point of support

  • Supporting students with attendance, punctuality, engagement, and motivation

  • Helping learners to identify and overcome barriers to education

  • Supporting students with emotional wellbeing, confidence, resilience, and self-esteem

  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping students develop strategies to manage challenging situations

  • Supporting learners to develop independence, organisation, communication, and life skills

  • Monitoring student progress and identifying concerns at an early stage

  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, parents/carers, and external professionals where appropriate

  • Maintaining accurate records of pastoral interventions and student progress

  • Supporting safeguarding procedures and escalating concerns appropriately

  • Promoting a safe, inclusive, and supportive college environment

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience working with young people or adults in a pastoral, mentoring, education, youth work, or care setting

  • Experience supporting students with SEND, SEMH, behavioural, or emotional needs

  • A patient, approachable, and empathetic manner

  • The ability to build strong and professional relationships with students

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • A proactive approach to supporting attendance, engagement, and positive behaviour

  • The confidence to manage challenging situations calmly and positively

  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and student welfare

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider support team

  • Relevant qualifications in mentoring, education, youth work, counselling, care, or supporting learning are desirable but not essential

What's on Offer:

  • Competitive hourly rate of £13.00 - £15.00, depending on experience

  • Full-time hours on a long-term basis

  • Opportunity to make a meaningful difference to students' educational and personal development

  • Valuable experience within a further education environment

  • Support from a dedicated agency consultant

  • Opportunity to develop your experience across pastoral, SEND, and student support

If you are passionate about helping young people overcome barriers, improve their confidence and engagement, and reach their full potential, we would love to hear from you.

Apply now to secure your role for September 2026.
