You will join our team to provide high levels of compassionate nursing care to babies and their families and join us in our development forwards.

Our Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) is a busy Level 1 unit providing 10 cots in total. Comprising of 2 HDU cots and 4 Special Care cots, and a newly established 4 bedded Transitional Care department. We provide gold standard care to babies and their families from 32 weeks gestation, but also provide stabilisation for babies born before this gestation, or critically ill term neonates prior to retrieval by the Peninsula Neonatal Transport Team.We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, innovative Qualified In Speciality (Q.I.S) nurses to work effectively within our SCBU unit and across the Child Health department. You should possess an RN, RSCN, RN Child, or RM qualification. Completion of the Neonatal Modules is desirable although a willingness to work towards achieving them would be considered. Experience of working within a neonatal environment is desirable and evidence of Leadership and change management in the clinical area would be beneficial. Main duties of the job

• Liaise and communicate effectively with all members of the MDT team, service users, relatives to help co-ordinate patient care.
• Excellent organisation skills to effectively help to plan, deliver and evaluate care plans

• There is no direct supervision responsibility within this role however you may be asked to support other members of the team, acting as a role model at all times.
• Take charge of the co-ordination of the unit.

We are a small team who is able to share the journey of our families forwards into the health of Torbay. We work closely with our 0-19 and health visiting teams, our maternity colleagues and the entire Child Health department.

Job responsibilities
The Main duties of the Sister/Charge nurse are to co-ordinate the shift whilst maintaining a calm and professional attitude. You will help in the day to day running of the unit, whilst helping to support the team around you to be able to deliver a high standard of care.

The expectation will be that the role will be used to support the Ward Manager and other Band 6 colleagues and take on active Leadership roles including sickness management, appraisals and staff support after a period of induction and training.

• NMC Registered (Level 1)
• Evidence of meeting PREP requirements
• Able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care
• Knowledge of clinical governance
• Knowledge of individual responsibility to health and safety and clinical risk.

Desirable

• Post graduate diploma degree in relevant subject or equivalent level experience
• Mentorship.
• Leadership experience or training.
• Awareness of the NHS plan and current initiatives.
• Knowledge of ICO initiatives within Torbay Trust
• Negotiation skills
• Diverse and adaptable communication skills to enable effective communication with the MDT.
