Freedom to Speak Up Guardian

Job summary
We are seeking to recruit a Freedom to Speak Up Guardian on a 2-year secondment basis (0.2 WTE, one day per week) to join the Trust's established Freedom to Speak Up team.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly regarded and well-established team that supports staff to raise concerns, promotes psychological safety and contributes to organisational learning and improvement. The role is well supported by the Trust's Executive Team and Board and plays an important role in strengthening the Trust's speaking up culture and supporting patient safety.

Main duties of the job

• The postholder will follow NGO guidance in independently managing and handling Speaking up cases, ensuring that their practice aligns with the wider Guardian team and that data, themes and learning are recorded and shared with the Lead Guardian to facilitate triangulation, learning and improvement.
• The post holder will manage highly sensitive and confidential information utilising the FTSU database.
• The postholder will support the Lead Guardian in identifying gaps in speaking up provision and engaging with key stakeholders to support the implementation of the FTSU strategy and implementation plan.
• The postholder will seek to identify barriers to Speaking Up and work with the Lead Guardian to address these.
• The postholder will provide accurate analytical reports to the Lead Guardian to enable analysis and reporting on FTSU data, themes, identified learning and recommendations.
• The postholder will ensure up to date awareness of guidance from the National Guardian's office to support review and improvement of the FTSU service at UHP.
• The postholder will be responsible for disseminating information to the FTSU Champion network and providing training and supervision for champions.

Qualifications
Essential

• Master's Degree level of education or equivalent demonstrable experience
• Willingness to undertake the National Guardian's Office eLearning: Speak Up and Listen up.
• Qualification or demonstrable experience in: Counselling, Mental Health First Aid, Coaching, Mediation

Desirable

• Recognised clinical professional qualification and significant demonstrable experience working in a clinical environment.
• Ongoing membership of a clinical register (e.g., GMC, GDC, NMC, HCPC)

Knowledge and experience
Essential

• Demonstrable experience of working within the acute setting in a role which includes supporting and managing staff
• Demonstrable experience of managing matters of a sensitive and confidential nature
• Demonstrable experience of managing challenging and emotional situations
• Demonstrable experience of building partnerships and effective working relationships
• Demonstrates a clear understanding, passion, and dedication of the principles of Freedom to Speak Up
• Demonstrable experience in report writing and able to clearly report on data and themes arising.
• Excellent Presentation skills, with the ability to influence and persuade staff of the importance of Speaking Up tailoring presentation style to the needs of the audience.
• An understanding of the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion as they relate to staff and patients and able to demonstrate personal commitment to promoting inclusion and diversity within the workplace.

Desirable

• Demonstrable experience of facilitating conversations between staff and managers
• Previous management of complex concerns and issues in a management, staffside or governance role

Essential

• Overtly demonstrable integrity
• Highly developed negotiating and influencing skills with the ability to overcome barriers to understanding to achieve acceptance and agreement.
