The Physics Department

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a Physics Teacher, you will be responsible for bringing the laws of the physical world to life. Your responsibilities will include:

• Instructional Excellence: Delivering academically rigorous and engaging lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. You will ensure pupils develop a masterly grasp of core concepts such as mechanics, electromagnetism, and wave behavior.

• A-Level Specialism: Taking a leading role in the delivery of A-Level Physics. You will guide senior pupils through complex topics such as nuclear physics, gravitational fields, and thermodynamics, preparing them for the demands of university-level study.

• Practical Mastery: Designing and overseeing sophisticated laboratory experiments that allow pupils to test hypotheses and develop high-level technical skills.

• Academic Tutoring: Serving as a personal tutor, providing both academic guidance and pastoral support to a small group of pupils, ensuring their wellbeing and progress across the curriculum.

• Curriculum Development: Contributing to the evolution of the Physics schemes of work, ensuring they remain challenging and incorporate contemporary developments in the field.

• Extracurricular Enrichment: Leading or contributing to societies such as the Astronomy Club or Engineering Society, and mentoring pupils for competitive external examinations and challenges.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will be a subject authority with a genuine passion for the physical sciences. You should possess:

• Academic and Professional Credentials: A strong honors degree in Physics or a closely related Engineering discipline and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent. We also welcome applications from talented graduates or industry professionals seeking to train in the independent sector.
