Head of Operational Risk, Guernsey

Our client, a leading international life assurance and wealth solutions provider, is seeking an experienced Head of Operational Risk to lead its Guernsey Risk team.

This senior role will oversee the operational risk management framework across the business. It will focus on identifying, managing and escalating risk incidents while maintaining effective reporting, governance and control assessment processes.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead and develop the Risk team.
• Embed and enhance the operational risk framework.
• Support the organisation’s risk strategy and risk appetite.
• Oversee risk incidents, root cause analysis and remediation actions.
• Maintain the Operational Risk Register.
• Monitor Key Risk Indicators and risk appetite thresholds.
• Lead operational risk and control assessments.
• Produce clear reports for senior management, Boards and regulators.
• Oversee policy implementation and attestation processes.
• Provide risk guidance, training and support across the business.
• Promote strong governance and a positive risk culture.

Skills and Experience
• At least five years’ experience in risk-focused roles, ideally within financial services.
• Strong knowledge of operational risk, governance frameworks and internal controls.
• Experience implementing or embedding risk management frameworks.
• Strong analytical, reporting and influencing skills.
• The ability to build effective relationships with senior stakeholders.
• Previous line management experience would be advantageous.
• Experience using Microsoft Office and risk management systems.

An IRM or equivalent qualification would be beneficial. If not already qualified, the successful candidate will be expected to complete an appropriate qualification within two years.
