Senior Medical Director, Oncology Clinical Development - Lung

$242.55k - $404.25k per annum
Full-time
Cancer is unrelenting, but so are we.
At GSK, we are committed to transforming outcomes for people with cancer through innovative science, bold ambition, and strong partnerships across the healthcare ecosystem. We focus our science where it can matter most — advancing care in cancers with high unmet need, grounded in a deep understanding of disease biology and deliberate scientific choices that connect discovery to meaningful impact in the real world.

The Senior Medical Director, Oncology Clinical Development - Lung is a senior physician leader within the clinical programme team, providing medical oversight, strategic clinical insight, and a patient-centred perspective across the design, conduct, and interpretation of clinical studies. This role ensures that medical considerations, patient safety, and clinical integrity are consistently applied across studies within a programme.

Operating within the clinical strategy defined by the Clinical Development Lead (CDL), the Senior Medical Director partners closely with the Senior Scientist and cross-functional teams to guide the integration of physician expertise into study execution and programme-level decision-making. The role serves as a senior member of the Clinical Matrix Team (CMT), contributing to complex clinical decisions, regulatory interactions, and external scientific engagement.

The Senior Medical Director provides oversight and guidance to Medical Directors within the programme, supporting consistency of clinical judgement, safety evaluation, and medical interpretation across studies.

PLEASE NOTE: This career opportunity requires an on-site office presence (minimum of two days a week) at one of GSK's Switzerland (Zug), UK (Stevenage or London HQ) or US (PA or MA) sites.

Location: London – New Oxford Street; Hertfordshire - Stevenage

  • Guide clinical aspects of study design and protocol implementation, particularly for complex, high-risk, or multi-study programmes
  • Support resolution of complex medical questions arising during study conduct, applying clinical judgement to inform programme-level decision-making
  • Ensure consistency of medical considerations across multiple studies within the programme
Data Interpretation and Scientific Contribution
  • Interpret complex clinical data across studies, integrating findings to inform programme-level insights on safety, efficacy, and patient impact
  • Contribute to programme-level data interpretation and support CDL-led benefit–risk assessment and clinical positioning
  • Guide development of scientific communications, including publications, congress materials, and clinical summaries
  • Maintain deep understanding of disease biology, evolving treatment paradigms, and competitive landscape to inform clinical interpretation and programme strategy
Regulatory and External Engagement
  • Contribute senior medical expertise to regulatory interactions and Health Authority discussions, including responses to complex clinical and safety queries
  • Represent the programme at advisory boards, steering committees, and external scientific forums, providing senior physician perspective on clinical data and programme direction
  • Engage with KEEs and scientific collaborators to support programme development, scientific exchange, and external credibility
  • Lead or contribute to the clinical and technical diligence assessment of business development opportunities
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Clinical Matrix Team
  • Serve as a senior member of the Clinical Matrix Team (CMT), influencing cross-functional alignment and programme-level decision-making
  • Contribute medical expertise to disease area strategy, integrated evidence planning, and Medical Affairs discussions
