Premises Manager - Secondary School
A thriving and community-focused secondary school in South East London is seeking a highly organised, proactive, and committed Premises Manager to join the team on an immediate basis . This is a full-time, year-round position and an excellent opportunity for someone experienced in school site management or facilities operations to take ownership of the smooth and safe running of a large, busy school environment.
About the Role
As Premises Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day strategic and operational management of the school site , ensuring that the buildings, grounds, and facilities are clean, secure, compliant, and fully operational. You will lead a small premises and cleaning team, working closely with senior leadership to ensure the school environment supports high-quality learning and is safe for staff, students, and visitors.
Your responsibilities will include:
Overseeing planned and reactive maintenance
Ensuring compliance with health & safety legislation , statutory checks, and safeguarding requirements
Managing contractors and service providers
Supervising cleaning, site staff, and maintenance operatives
Overseeing security, opening/locking the site, and emergency procedures
Conducting risk assessments and ensuring necessary checks (fire safety, water testing, asbestos monitoring, etc.) are completed
Managing budgets and ordering equipment / materials as required
Leading on minor repairs and supporting larger refurbishment projects
You will play an essential role in ensuring the school runs smoothly, safely, and efficiently every day.

Who We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience in premises/facilities management (school experience preferred but not essential)
Strong knowledge of Health & Safety , compliance and building management
Practical skills in repairs, maintenance, or hands-on site work
Leadership ability and confidence managing a premises team
Strong organisational and communication skills
A proactive, reliable, and professional approach
This role would also suit someone with previous caretaking or site management experience ready to take a step up.
Salary
Competitive and dependent on experience. Full-time, all-year-round.
