Job Description
Help Shape the Future of Nuclear Waste Management
We are looking for a highly motivated and adaptable individual to join us as a Consultant. This role would suit someone with numerical modelling experience and a passion for working alongside teams of technical experts. The role is multi-faceted and will enable you to develop your experience in technical research, project management and business development. Training and development will be provided, enabling you to apply your existing numerical and modelling skills as part of our criticality safety and radionuclide transport modelling team
As well as experience in modelling, you will be given a unique opportunity to develop all-round experience in the nuclear decommissioning, radioactive waste management and disposal industry. You’ll experience working in different environments ranging from small teams with world-class experts to larger project teams delivering engineering projects. You will be supported in developing your expertise and industry profile, and you’ll have the opportunity to apply your skills to projects for clients both in the UK and internationally.
As a Consultant, you will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of technical projects. Using your expertise, you will contribute to:
- Development and application of numerical models to solve complex scientific and engineering challenges.
- Research and consultancy projects for UK and international clients.
- High-quality technical reports and assessments, helping our clients with important decisions.
- Presenting findings to clients, industry groups and project stakeholders.
- Supporting project delivery and management activities.
- Contributing to business growth and client engagement opportunities
Qualifications
Essential requirements:
- A degree-level qualification, or equivalent experience, in a quantitative science subject area (e.g. Physics or Chemistry), applied mathematics or branches of engineering.
- Ability to meet the requirements of the UK baseline personnel security standard (BPSS) clearance as a minimum.
- Strong time management, prioritisation and problem-solving skills.
- Basic coding skills (e.g. experience with Python, C++ or similar software)
Desirable skills and experience:
- A basic understanding of radioactive waste management and disposal would be advantageous, but we expect your knowledge will grow and be enhanced by your involvement in a diverse range of projects.
- You will work with specialised modelling software – particularly those related to neutron and/or particle transport (e.g. MCNP), site characterisation, groundwater flow, gas transfer, and/or contaminant transport in geological media (e.g. GoldSim, COMSOL) – a basic knowledge of these would be an advantage but full training and support will be provided.
- Project and contract management training and support will be provided but demonstrable experience of working to deadlines, prioritisation and effective communication would be desirable.
Why Join Us?
- Work with internationally recognised experts in the nuclear sector.
- Gain exposure to cutting-edge projects in the UK and overseas.
- Receive dedicated training and professional development.
- Be part of a collaborative, people-focused and innovative organisation.
- Help deliver solutions that contribute to a safer and more sustainable future.
Security & Eligibility Requirements
This role is subject to pre-employment screening and UK BPSS clearance requirements.
Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK and not require a visa and be willing to undergo the required background checks.
