Immunisation Nurse (Uckfield)

Job summary
Our innovative and dynamic Immunisation teams are dedicated to improving immunisation uptake and delivering the national evidence-based Schools' Immunisation Programmes. We are hiring a registered nurse to work 14 hours per week, on an annualised contract, working 42 weeks a year. The applicant must a full UK driving license and access to a car during their working day.

The role encompasses responsibility for clinical delivery of vaccinations and patient safety, specialist advice on immunisation issues, and the opportunity to develop skills in both independent and team working.

We welcome applicants who can demonstrate a willingness to work flexibly and cooperatively with colleagues both within their own team and the wider multidisciplinary teams across the whole SCFT area. You will need to be motivated, conscientious and committed to supporting us to maintain high vaccination coverage across Sussex.

The team visits several schools across the county every day, so you would be likely to visit a different school each day during school term time and carry out catch-up clinics during the school holidays. We currently offer HPV and Teenage booster vaccinations in secondary schools and nasal spray flu vaccinations to eligible cohorts within schools. We also offer the neonatal BCG programme and other immunisations, such as MMR in clinic.

Main duties of the job
The ideal candidates will deliver a high quality immunisation service within a variety of settings in the community working with patients and other partners to increase immunisation rates.They will also participate in the day to day immunisation sessions/clinics determined by the Immunisation Nurse Specialist and when required, motivate people to have immunisations.

Please note: This is a part-time role and due to recent changes in UK immigration and visa rules, this role is unlikely to be eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Job responsibilities
  • 01. Identify changes in patients physical, psychological and social status acting on findings, seeking guidance and/or reporting to the appropriate member of the multi-disciplinary team as well as the Clinical Service Manager.
  • 02. Demonstrate effective time management by prioritisation and delegation of patient care, promoting continuity whenever possible and working in collaboration within the Immunisation Team.
  • 03. Demonstrate commitment to continual professional development, participating in clinical supervision and working within NMC code, Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust policies, and relevant national immunisation standards demonstrating awareness of personal accountability for own actions.
  • 04. Demonstrate a high standard of clinical information collation and documentation, adhering to Trust and national guidelines pertaining to the collection and storage of data
  • 05. To attend all mandatory and statutory training including infection prevention and control. The Trust is committed to delivering a higher standard of customer care and therefore it is compulsory to ensure that you have undergone induction training within 3 months of your appointment.
  • 06. Timescales for meeting standards of performance relating to the duties and responsibilities identified in this job description will be agreed with the post holder via the annual appraisal process and the relevant KSF outline.
  • 07. As directed by the Clinical Service Manager and as required, respond to outbreak situations which require immunisations to be delivered as part of the incident management of the Health Protection Agency.
  • 08. To carry out risk assessments and adhere to safe systems of work. This includes understanding and adhering to the reporting procedures for clinical and non-clinical incidents/near misses. To take a proactive role in contributing to risk identification and management and be responsive to lessons learnt from incidents and near misses. Proactively manages risk to vulnerable adults.
  • 09. To undertake the safe handling and administration of immunisations, ensuring that the cold chain is maintained.
  • 10. Responsible for mentoring students and junior staff.

  • RN/M qualification / degree or diploma
  • Evidence of a range of clinical competencies

  • Completion of Immunisation training that reflects HPA standards
