Job summary
We have an exciting development opportunity for a Pharmacy Technician to join our View email address on meeveem.com pharmacy team. You will work closely with the View email address on meeveem.com Senior Clinical Pharmacist to develop this service which was established in 2025. The service also includes a frailty same day emergency care unit and an acute frailty team within the hospital bringing variety and opportunities to develop the role.

The role will be based at University Hospital North Durham, and the pharmacy service runs Monday to Friday during core working hours. There is no weekend working commitment associated with the role.

You must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and hold a L3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians or an equivalent, recognised GPhC qualification.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will as part of a multi-disciplinary team provide medicines support to the View email address on meeveem.com team. The team includes Consultant Geriatricians, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Therapists. There is also a pharmacy View email address on meeveem.com team based at Darlington Memorial Hospital, ensuring you have the opportunity for peer support.

You will support the View email address on meeveem.com senior and rotational pharmacist in delivering medicines optimisation to patients to promote the seamless transfer of care, medicines reconciliation and work with patients and their carers to promote independence with medicines. There may be a requirement to visit patients in their own homes to provide pharmacy support and advice

As part of the pharmacy team, you will be involved in the day to day running of the ward, support training on medicines and be involved in audit and governance.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape a service that will improve the care of frailty patients in our local population and deliver an NHS national priority. You will develop the role of the pharmacy technician in the service for the benefit of the patient.

Qualifications
Essential

• 4 GCSEs at grade C (or equivalent) in Maths, English and Science.
• Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills (or equivalent qualifications recognized by the GPhC).
• Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science (QCF) (or equivalent qualifications recognized by the GPhC).
• The post holder must meet at least one of the following requirements and will be expected to have commenced another within 12 to 18 months of employment:
• CPPE: Accuracy Checking Pharmacy
• Technician Programme or PETO: Northern Sector Course for Technician Checking of Dispensed Items (PETO Accuracy checkers must be on the northern sector regional technician register)
• North East and North Cumbria Framework for Medicines Management Level 3
• Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (or equivalent)

Desirable

• Supervisory/management qualifications or training
